This is not an action hero movie. But it is about a hero of sorts. This is actually a really good Father's Day movie, although I did not realize it when I began watching it. I'd heard some good things about the movie and I wanted to see it for myself. A married couple makes the decision to live and raise their children completely off the grid. In the wilderness. They have no running water or electricity. They have to hunt for their food and live completely off the land. And all goes well until the wife gets sick, goes back to be with her family in hopes of getting better, but passes away. Now the father is left alone to raise his 6 children and has a lot of decisions to make. I'm not completely in love with this movie. There were things I found disturbing to me. But the idea of the movie is very good. In today's world, can you find a place completely off the grid to raise a family? Can you really teach them all they need to know without a TV or phone or video games? It also gives voice to someone's last wishes. I've seen a lot of families completely disregard the final wishes of someone who has passed away, and that always bothered me. When a will specifically spells out what someone wants, I, personally, believe those wishes should be honored. This movie shows people on both sides of that argument and the passion of each. I found it most interesting how it was ultimately resolved. Love of family is at the heart of this movie. No parent is perfect, that's for sure. Every decision has to be made as the parent sees fit for their family. And this movie shows the decisions of one family, and some of the repercussions. Claudia

Never heard of this movie. But, now I am a bit curious about seeing it. Wish I had Netflix.

Some days, Netflix saves my life. I get the dvds in the mail because I can't seem to find the movies I really want to see if I stream them, and I hear tidbits here and there about movies to watch. This was something pretty different!
