The Model Doesn't Matter

I've been using PayPal for years now and have noticed, whenever I log into the site, how they have changed the models over the years. I am Asian and based in Asia. We are homogeneous in terms of skin tone, hair and eye color. But, to be honest, it doesn't matter to me if the models PayPal used are Caucasians, or looking like they're in places I've never been to and doing things I don't do (meaning, lifestyle and way of living). I know PayPal is an American company, and I'm only availing of their services. I don't even begrudge them the service fees and conversion fees for non-US accounts. In fact, if they only showed a logo, with no models at all on the site, it won't matter to me, either. I would still use PayPal because I need it and it's the most convenient for me. The store mannequins at the malls and even sidewalk stalls here are usually tall, fair, with ideal physique and Caucasian features (narrow noses with high bridges). Maybe it’s because these mannequins are imported (not manufactured here), but I think shoppers only focus on the clothes itself, anyway. They know they’re only for display purposes to catch their attention. Because, at the end of the day, people will still buy and wear what they want, like wearing boots in a hot and humid country.

I don't mind at all, too. As long as I don't feel discriminated.

@hereandthere I will call their attention if being discriminated. I had done this before in Tajikistan.

Yes, I also noticed that. But you are correct, the models doesn't matter. What matters is that the clothes or product looks good on us.

@hereandthere I was wondering too, why those who decorated the venue have that. Maybe they likened my boss to a mannequin - sexy.

I love Paypal but they do charge a lot for the conversions. And for transfer of funds to local banks. They must earn a lot from all these charges. And with regards to the models they use on their website, it doesn't really affect my use of the website so I don't really care what models they use.

@hereandthere Store mannequins here seem quite generic. There are shops that feature faceless mannequins and there are also those that display headless mannequins. And they are also of various colours; black, white, yellow, beige and so on. So, we can't really see the racial features of these mannequins.

here, aside from the conversion fees, you will be deducted 50 pesos (1 dollar) if you're transferring less then 7,000 pesos from paypal to your bank. by the way, what do the store mannequins look like in malaysia?

@jstory07 because one time i was invited to join a site, but when i read the rules it only accepts certain countries, so i didn't join. the site didn't last long anyway.

Can you believe that I pay so little attention to the PayPal login page that I could not even say what they display? The store mannequins are all tall and thin in every country of the world, surely they do not represent the majority of the population.

i remember the video of the musician. then it changed to asian models, also younger. i didn't know store mannequins are the same all over the world. i guess there's only one mold/standard measurement in manufacturing them?

@hereandthere They are not identical, but very similar. Most of the stores use the smaller sizes to show, because they usually look nicer.

I never noticed any model on my PayPal account. Models are unlike any normal person, even mannequins. Their job is to make the clothes look good. They are very unrealistic body images that give me a complex. lol

I really don't pay attention to it at all. Now I doubt is there a model for Paypal? Perhaps, but I think I may be blind to it

I have never noticed that at all probably because its all in Spanish and I just concentrate on what is in front of me. Those model things should all be the same just a figure and nothing else.

I never really took notice of who they use on PayPal - how funny! I have noticed that many stores are now using headless mannequins but of course the bodies are still pretty much the same. I guess any of these companies have to show what they feel is most attractive to portray an image, but definitely it's not a representation of what the real world is like all the time.

there are headless mannequins here, too, and mannequins with no facial features. but you're right, the male and female bodies shapes are all the same.

They're just displaying the latest clothes, but then again it's up to the customers which one they want. And usually some research first before buying one.

Yes that is true and very right because they have to represent so nicely So that people get attracted to the dresses or anything they are selling so it's quite ok with me too as well

They make everything looks beautiful just to sell. It's a business strategy.

One of the proven strategies in order to rank up in search engines is by having images in a content. This is one of the Search Engine Optimization of the site.

Still, I cannot reject Pay Pal though I have just experienced a glitch in their site, it's they that resolved the problem so quick that it did not reach days but few hours.
