As I have been at my sister in law's house she watches her friend's baby for her so the mother can get some sleep.. well she crys so hard when her mom holds her or talks to her.. but when someone else is holding her she is happy..it's kinda sad and I don't really understand it.

The baby does NOT dislike her mom. Babies are very sensitive to peoples' moods and react to them. Is the mom worried, stressed, overtired, frustrated? The baby will pick up on that and cry when the mom holds her. She doesn't cry when someone else holds her because that person is not stressed and worried. Mom needs to relax--I know, better said than done, but surely she has someone that can take some pressure off her by helping with the housework or other things that might be worrying her. I know all this because I went through it. Thank God I had a doctor that took the time to explain it to me. Please tell your SIL that the baby loves her mom but is reacting to mom's stress. If the mom thinks the baby does not love her it could permanently affect their relationship.

@dragon54u Your absolutely right, I didn't even think about that! Babies do pick up on what their mother is feeling and if the mother is having bad feelings the baby will too.

That's so sad Maybe the baby is happy to see someone else. It seems quite a bizarre situation

Wow that has to be heart breaking for his mom. That would kill me if I knew my own baby didn't like me. =(

I don't think that she minds all that much.. I don't really know the mom well but she is always having other people watch her and she is only a month old and so cute.

@hillhjill Oh wow that is sad for the baby. No wonder the baby cries when with her then if the mom doesn't want the baby. Babies absolutely sense that. Maybe she should give the baby up for adoption?

That shows baby is not comfortable with her mom, that's sad. May be the mother is not looking her well enough..

I know a case of my friend's wife who had postpartum depression so it was difficult for her to care for their baby after was born most of the care was by my friend (her husband) and their parents, His wife received medication tretment and after about two-three months she returned to herself and took care of her baby son. I hope this is not the case here...
