Just after my second discussion today it happened, I reading and about to comment when a bot of lightening hit something in the back yard. I automatic reached and pulled the plug to the computer and came in and did the same to the t.v. A fast rolling thunderstorm came in with more lightening than I have seen in a while. Just as one ended another came rolling in, one with pea size hail. Since I could not work in the yard as planned, I could not work in the kitchen so I got my novel and went to lay down in my room to read, I did fall asleep and slept a couple hours. When I woke it had all passed and the sun coming back out. Nope, no work for me today. How was your day?

Why did you unplug things?

@Courtlynn It's not uncommon for a nearby lightning strike to send jolts of electricity through electrical wiring, phone lines, and even plumbing pipes. It's always better to unplug things if you can during a violent thunderstorm. That's also why they suggest you have your expensive electronics plugged into a surge protector. Otherwise, that surge of power from the lightning strike can fry your electronic equipment.

Lightening has been running into places and ruining there appliances, a girl at McDonald`s was washing dishes and it ran the pipe I think and when it hit the water she got hit. Once it hit my sisters house and fried all of her t.v.s

At least reading is fairly safe in a thunderstrom, unless you read outside---ha!

@andriaperry I still love to watch the storm though- on a porch or just out the window- although part of me is worried a bolt will hit me---lol!

@andriaperry As good as things can be right now. just struggling is all. Not to mention my ex that is in jail is telling people that a good friend of mine is making it all up. So he is getting a paid lawyer and 50 bucks commissary a week from the church and ex-friends. Which bothers me. I know the truth will come out but I hate knowing a con man and pedophile is being believed over a child.

Yesterday I ran errands after breakfast, and then moved the two beds back and forth in the house. No storms. I have killed another mower or two. I am doomed . Gonna pick up one today.

I'm watching thunderstorms build up over my head as I sit here. Although it's typical to get thunderstorms every day in Florida during the summer, they usually don't hit until the afternoon. This summer has been different, with the thunderstorms hitting really early in the day for some reason. And they have also been more violent than usual, with some serious thunder and lightning. Not sure what's been going on to cause such a variance in our typical summertime patterns, but it seems to be something everyone is experiencing around the country.

Glad it didn't hit anything and make you lose power. It was wise for you to turn things off as that's what i do during a bad storm also. I always fall asleep when reading or get really tired. This is why i always read before bed.

Smart thinking to unplug the computer and TV. My mom always made us stay away from any electronics in the house when we'd have a lightning storm. We weren't allowed to use the phone either because she said lightning could hit the power line, travel through the telephone wires and electrocute us. Lightning storms always make me nervous, especially when they're right overhead.
