Afraid Of Cats?

I love cats. I was brought up around them and they are very dear to me. I am finding out today that such historical macho figures as Hitler, Napoleon, Julius Caesar, Genghis Khan, Mussolini and Alexander the Great had ailurophobia. This is the fear of cats. Can you believe that these men were afraid of cats? It seems so strange. Elephants or horses maybe, but not cats.

I had a Cuban friend once and she was terrified of cats, some sort of superstition.

I'm scared of cats as well so it doesn't seem strange to me. I feel like they could be purring one minute and clawing your face off the next. I haven't been around them much since I'm very nervous.

That is odd. I have been around them all my life. Never had a bad experience.

@celticeagle I have been around cats that would be under the bed and claw your feet as you walk by. I have been scratched by a cat while petting them. And I have been hissed at by my neighbors cat. I'm a magnet to mean cats apparently.

@LovingMyBabies .....My daughter was attacked by her favorite cat's dad. We don't know why he did that but caused her to have several stitches. They are animals and subject to their instincts. I think cat's sense those who don't like them too.

We adopted a cat three years ago that is the nastiest so called house cat that I've yet to encounter. I've been a cat person since I started to crawl. And this cat is just not somebody to mess with when she does not want to be messed with. The snarl alone hurts.

I wonder if she was abused before you had her. That is how our female is. She doesn't want to be bother most of the time. She was abused and her first six months with us was spend under the couch. Poor little girl! Her name is Crystal and she is black and white.

@celticeagle Little Crystal sounds pretty. Saia was not raised with a cat person. I think the guy who owned her tried but he worked a good deal of the day. Saia was stuck in a small apartment and wow did she escape and go wacky when she got here to our 3 acres. She just wasn't touched and played with a lot when she was in her formative months so now its like dealing with an autistic being. We've had her three years and now she is slowly coming around a bit though I do not trust her like I do our others.

That's good. Cat know if you are a good person too I think. Some won't pay any attention to some while others they will come up to them and purr and want some attention from them. I think they have psychic powers.

Phobias are irrational fears and as such totally beyond our ability to control.

In my childhood, most of the time we had a cat. So I am a cat lover for sure. I know some people are afraid of the cats and of course I can't understand them. But anyway they are normal people. I feel shocked to see that these great men were afraid of cats. How funny it is! It doesn't make a sense

I have no fear or cats or dogs, unless the dog is huge and growling.

I understand it because they can claw... but I am not afraid of them.
