Gone

Just got back from my walk, carrying home a few gallons of rainwater in my beautiful comfortable walking shoes and a few more on the hems of my jeans (it rained dreadfully before). Now that I am home, the rain stops . Just checked the kerbside next to our back gate, our two ancient and worn sofas have finally been collected by the garbage company, perhaps to sofa haven? That set had been with us for about two decades. With the kids growing up and moving out, we decided to declutter the place. NB. We still have two more sofa beds somewhere in the house by the way. They are about a year old. Saw some 70ish lady who calmly paid $600 for a secondhand set of 'perhaps leather' sofas which included a 3 seater and 2 armchairs. Perhaps it was a good bargain? (The armchairs, each with a lever for reclining mechanism. The set seemed to be in good condition. Perhaps they were donated by some wealthy people?) Since we are in the process of decluttering, seeing someone in that age group buying bulky furniture surprised me a teeny-weeny bit. (Perhaps she bought it for one of her young relatives?) Would you be a happy receiver of such a giant soft dark brown leather sofa set? (I think they are vinyl, as most things these days .)

You don't stop needing furniture just because you are old, you know.

I spent a bit of time yesterday watching another lady in her late 70s (perhaps of Jewish background). Made me think of an actress on the stage the way she checked the fancy intricate stand of that old lamp which was studded with some fancy glass/mirror/fake diamonds. She then in her clear voice, ordered the male staff of that charity store to do this & that (wrapping, carrying the lamp out to her car for her, measuring another pretty corner display unit etc). Fascinating lady! (I wouldn't mind buying that lamp for my bedroom by the way, it did look very fancy, like in the 50s-60s movies with those pretty actresses floating around in their double chiffon night gowns and wraps... )

@ilocosboy, people abroad never care about getting wet by the rain. When I was In NZ, I saw none using an umbrella during rain, so a guy shouted at me saying: "hey, so unusual"

I only want things that I can lift and move by myself as I live alone. I have nothing that I can't lift.

She no doubt bought it for a young relative as that is crazy for herself alone. I wish you had a really nice sofa too, in fact I wish I had a really nice sofa.

When the kids were young and liked curling around us watching movies together, yes, I would have loved to have such a soft 3 seater sofa. Alas, none of my kids are interested in curling up with me any more. (Golly, they are all giants, they would squash me more likely if they even decided to hug me for too long.)

. We just redid our family room with material that we chose. We got rid of the old real leather couch, sofa, chair and ottoman. We have an old family room with real black leather, too, but want redecorate that room, too. Want to make an offer?

@DianneN Your comment made me think of my late parents in law. They invited their grandkids to their beautiful place (a small tiny unit) but told the kids to stay still and not running around in case the kids hurt their sofas. Have to admit, the grandma of the kids couldn't care less about the whole thing, but her new husband was the one who was so touchy about it. Ah, but then I remember now, it was his place and his furniture after all.

With the kids moving out, I am keen to keep all the rooms mostly empty (even if your furniture sounds attractive ).

I plan to buy leather, real leather when I replace my current couch because I have pets and hair doesn't stick to leather.

@YrNemo I think if the room is warm the couch will be warm but putting a blanket on the seat is an option.
