First Aid is important to keep the life until get the medical support. But self treatment is different. Do you keep some medicine or pills for the future diseases. Do you have the habit of swallowing pills without doctors advise. In our are People swallow medicine for fever and headache without going to hospitals. They thinks it benefits time , money and health. Do you think it is right decision to treat self? Image : Pixabay.com

For minor problems I think that is perfect to buy over the counter medication and treat myself. I go to see my doctor if I have a real problem.

I think we need to be sure in engulfing some medications. Self-medication is quite dangerous if it is not sure of the effect of the medicines.

I go to my doctor when I have anything worse than a headache or common cold. I only take a pain reliever such as Advil and cough or cold medicine that is OTC. Everything else must be filled by prescription only from my doctor.

In India also people take medicine largely for flue and fever, cough, pain etc. Some of the doctors are strictly against the self medication.

@shshiju Many of those over the counter meds don't work for me. When I'm sick, I'm really sick.

There are people who rejects to take OTC medicine. They prefer doctor only. But if you have enough knowledge of illness and medication it can take as a emergency medicine.

Ideally, we should not take any medicine without the advice of Doctor but we keep some medicines e.g. pain reliever, anti allergic and antacid to take, in case it is not feasible to go to Doctor.

I always try to self medicate myself before going to a doctor. If my symptoms get worse and the medicine i'm taking doesn't help then i'll make a doctors appointment. I hate getting extra pills as I take enough as it is daily.

That is the mentality of the common people. Majority applies to fever, flues, body pain etc. But if you feels it severe consult a doctor is good.

I have no medicines in the home. I don't think I have ever had a fever and if I did I never knew it. I used to get headaches and took aspirins but since I drink water on a regular basis I have never had a headache since that I needed to worry about. I do believe in prevention. If one doesn't get something there is no need for medications.

I know myself and I know when I need to go to the doc. I have to be extremely careful of what I take because of the interaction between some medicines.
