We Had To Give My Son's Dog Away Today

My son's dog has been sick peeing a lot and has had blood in her urine. She was peeing in the house when she has been potty trained. My son's dad, his girlfriend, my girlfriend, and I all cannot afford to pay for the veterinary bills and tried to look into other options but they did not work out. My family tried to help pay but it was not enough. So today we gave her to the MSPCA so that she could get the care she needs. My son is upset and cried. We are all sad. What about others?

I remember that several years ago, my daughter found a beautiful dog in the street and took it home. We could all see that he had been loved and trained, but when she took it to the vet, she found out that he had a terminal illness. Fortunately my daughter had the means to care for "Cholito" until the end. I do wish we could have told the prior owners that their dog had found a good place. We all thought that the first owners did not have the means to care for him.

I am glad that your daughter was able to care for the sick dog until it passed. We do not know what is wrong with the dog but I hope that she will be all right and have another good home.

@marguicha My son's dog is sweet and friendly too. She will be missed. My son only had her for about 8 months or so.

I think that's the best thing you can do is to surrender the dog and let the MSPCA take care of his medical needs and then re-home him. I think he would understand in time. How old are the dog and your son? Do you Care Credit or any other pet insurance?

We are unsure of the dog's age since my son's dad was unable to get papers for her and found her on Craigslist. My son will be 13 next month. No one has any pet insurance.

@KristenH Craigslist can be shady but I love it because I have found job, work at home, places to live, and met friends and girlfriends on there. I hope so too.

@melindataylor22 Oh my. That's not good to have no idea on the dog's age. Craigslist is pretty shady. I hope the vet can determine her age and how she got sick. Okay. I hope your son will be okay in time.

So sorry. But if you can't afford it's better to give it for better treatment and those who can look after. Of course it's really difficult
