Another instantly recognizable classic iconic theme. Based on Erle Stanley Gardner’s famed fictional character, “Perry Mason” (1957-66) would become the most famous and influential legal TV series of all time. Raymond Burr starred as the attorney who never lost a case and solved the crime in the courtroom in theatrical fashion. “Park Avenue Beat” was the highlight of composer Fred Steiner’s career. He scored numerous B pictures, provided incidental music to TV series and did the “Rocky and Bullwinkle Show” theme. Steiner intended the “Perry Mason” theme to evoke a jazzy big city feel and has the most dramatic intro you will ever hear. Mike Curb’s “Law & Order” intro is clearly inspired by “Perry Mason.”

My sister wanted the detective for a boyfriend more than she wanted the lawyer.

Thank you, I think. It is now running in my head. I never knew the name or history. I think he succeeded in getting his theme to evoke those feelings and moods.

I used to enjoy Perry Mason and later watched all they had to offer on YouTube. Just didn't know about the theme. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the memories, I just listened to it and it did bring back some good evenings passed with my family watching "Perry Mason". It was on Tuesday night for us, translated in French.

It is certainly recognizable. It was also my father's favorite drama series.
