Quitting soda & energy drinks day 2

Over the past several months Ive gotten extremely addicted to diet sodas and energy drinks. Since I started working nights I started drinking these to keep awake - I get so sluggish past midnight! I would also sometimes drink them when running errands or have a diet energy drink after going to the gym for a little "oomph". I did make the decision to quit soda and energy drinks - yestetday was my first successful day! Since I am off work until Thursday evening I thought it would be good to start so I could hopefully lower my caffeine tolerance / get used to it before goig to work my overnight shift. I decided for now carbonated unsweetened water is Ok, as well as coffee and tea. So I stocked up on all types of te, some caffinated and some not! I already feel like I am doing myself a favor. All that fake sugar cannot be good for you. Have you ever quit drinking soda or energy drinks? Any advice appreciated....and wish me luck! And for seasoned tea drinkers out there, whats a good kind for me to try?

I always wanted to quit pepsi cola but I can't at the end of the day. The sugar craving is always there. At maximum I can drink about 6 cans a day, now limited to only 1 can a day.

@maezee yes I am super addicted to the fizz and taste also. I hope can replace with ice lemon tea??maybe not. Other taste of can drinks is not so good like sodas.

I don't do energy drinks because of my heart problem but I do like a soda here and there. I used to drink diet soda all the time but now I just drink it once a day and stick to water or tea. Glad you made the decision to get to better your lifestyle and health. Good luck & I hope you can keep to it.

Depends on the day. Usually one diet energy drink around 2am on work days. Also probably anywhere from 3-4 or maybe evn 5 cans of diet soda. Very bad.

@hereandthere It is! I definitely need to reduce my tolerance on caffeine. Thr worst is sometimes on my days off I could drink an energy drink and then take a nap directly after! Haha

@maezee i do understand the need at 2am, i experienced that, too, but you're right 3, 4, 5 cans is worrying. stocking up on alternative drinks is good, and lots of water.

I tried stopping Coke for a day. Boy was that a mistake. I was shaking and angry the entire day. I was nervous like I never was before. It was a horrible experience. Energy drinks were never my thing. I still don't like them. But Diet Coke, I need that when I have my lunch and dinner. No other time.

@maezee No, I wasn't getting any caffeine. That was a withdrawal. And it wasn't pretty. After a 2 day stint like that I had myself a cold can of coke. Then I felt much better.

I used to drink diet soda all the time but have gotten off it for the most part. Now I only drink it occasionally and it doesn't have the thrill it used to. Now I just drink water all day and I feel so much better. Hope you have success getting off those diet sodas and energy drinks.

I don't have this problem as I never started drinking this stuff. It makes me belch - a sensation I don't cherish.

I think it's okay in moderation

Very good decision!!! I drink 1 cup of coffee each day when I'm working usually and tea very rarely. I'm into the Cafe Bustelo coffee which is "espresso-style" and pretty strong. I love Earl Grey tea.

Ooh good! I was trying to find some caffeinated teas besides plain black and green tea. I have yet to try the earl grey. So far Ive noticed tea makes me thirsty for water! Which I guess is good!

Sodas are the worst thing in the world to drink.... I used to drink it everyday ALL OF THE TIME. I had water only when I worked out. I ditched soda for the most part..... 95% of the time. I have it every now and then but it is usually sips. I have never poured myself a glass of soda in FOREVER. I drink water throughout the day. In the morning I do have my coffee though. The teas will also help flush out the toxins from the sodas in your system. I also enjoy adding lemon to my lipton tea. I usually drink tea with no sugar or milk.... as is.

I'm in the middle of the that battle and I'm on the loosing end... Before I could drink 2.25 liter of soda in one sitting. Now my daily limit is one can a day. Which sometimes can lead to 2 or 3, depending on the mood.

At least thats less than 2.25 liters per day! Small steps are good too.
