Decluttering D-U-S-T

# 79 It’s that time of the year again... Time to get rid of unnecessary items… Guess I can say it’s like spring cleaning although officially spring starts a month away still… But the bi-annually hard waste pick up is scheduled in a couple of week. So I better start deciding if some items can be DUST-ed as in Donated, Used, Sold, or Thrown away. This is the opportunity to remove any unwanted large household items like furniture, appliances, or whitegoods that need to be discarded. A week from the scheduled pick up, we can start putting them out on the curb available for anyone who wants to take. The disposal truck will clear everything out along the curbside on the pick up day. What are you looking forward to in August? Oh, do you see the rainbow in my picture?

I am looking forward to not much really at this time of the year. I do not have much here at all to be dusted. Hope August is great for you then Sishy and you will get rid of what you don´t want anymore. Yes I love the rainbow in the photo.

I see the rainbow! In my country we only have some very big cans that say: plastics, glass and paper. No trucks. But I will not do anything to the dust until the workers next door stop drilling. In spite of closed doors, the dust gets inside.

@sishy7 Yes. We sold the house and the new owners are practically demolishing it to build what I guess will be a great house.

Oh yes... and if I'm not mistaken the workers are renovating the house that used to belong to your parents, no?

@marguicha that's the trend i notice here, too, in our neighborhood. the present or new owners demolish everything and build one that occupies the whole lot, all four corners.

We are only allowed 12 items, twice a year to be picked up for free here. CAn't put them out until 7:00 Pm the night before.

In some exclusive areas here putting anything out on the curb is not allowed. They consider that unsightly and could effect negatively on the value of their properties.

That is a beauty of a rainbow! Our Spring seems to have started already though it should also be a month away. I will also be cleaning out stuff soon. Nothing else planned for August, maybe some retail therapy if I find time. I wish we had a hard waste pick up. We have to cart away old furniture etc, ourselves if we want to get rid of it.

Oh, is there a special place to dump it? We have hard waste and also green waste pick up. Each one is done twice a year.

What a pretty rainbow. Were you driving when you took this? I'm currently doing the same thing. Mostly I'm gathering together all the recycle goods I have to bring to the bins and then I'll go through my clothes to see if I have anything to give to goodwill or whatnot. I'm curious, have you gotten any snow this winter?

I just thought you were driving because of the cars in the shot and raindrops on the window @sishy7 Do you live close to a ski resort?

@rebelann You're right, I took it from inside a moving car... And if the angle looks like it was from the left side, down here that would be the front passenger side because drivers are on the right side of the car... No, I don't live near any ski resort... I live in low elevation...

Not sure... probably some waste disposal lot somewhere... I think the truck crush them when they pick up so they become flat as not to take up so much space and more big items can fit in the disposal truck.

@hereandthere Yes, it's for the stuff that falls under the 'T' as in throw away... But you know how they say "one man's trash is another man's treasure"... So sometimes even when we no longer want them, they may still be wanted by others... We've had people pick up some furniture and bicycles as soon as we put them out on the curb... That's why they allow a week before the scheduled pick up date to put the stuff out - to give a chance for others who might want to reuse them before the disposal truck come by and destroy whatever is left on the curb...

@sishy7 so this is for stuff that can no longer be used? i was assuming the usable ones will be donated somewhere.

@sishy7 We have two wheelie bins - one for general rubbish collected every week and one for recycling which is collected every fortnight. Anything bigger or not to go into these bins we have to take to the rubbish tip ourselves.

Yes, I like to be as minimalist as I possibly can. It's my husband who likes to accumulate stuff. But he's getting better lately - I told him I'd like to move in an apartment or something when the kids are on their own so we really need to get rid of lots of stuff we have in the house...

I have some copies of documents that have outlived their utility. But I feel rather circumspect to discard them as I feel, out of the blue, I may require them - siva

Oh, documents and paperwork really have a way of accumulating themselves in an alarming rate sometimes... Especially when both my husband and I are a type who thinks they can be important one day so we don't believe in discarding them...
