The train crossing and our traffic flow

Train crossing by Pat Z Anthony

A train can be the perfect way to travel for some, while others just think about traffic waiting for the train to finish crossing. It is nice to know that trains are still on the move. Where we live, we hear these at night more than in the day. Some have complained about the noise and how the trains interrupt traffic. Trains and the noise of the trains are things we don't mind. In fact, it is sometimes enjoyable to hear the trains in the distance. The sounds sometimes make us think of earlier years when many traveled by train. Do you have trains where you live?

@Nawsheen Trains are everywhere in this state it seems, but more are used for shipping than for travel.

@PatZAnthony I can understand it if you live near a train line ... it could be intrusive especially if its a busy line ...

We have freight trains only near by. I love hearing them as I loved travelling by train as a child. I took my kids on one train trip across 4 provinces when they were young. They really enjoyed it. We have traveled by train in Europe and it is just too bad we don't have it here more. A great way to travel. I also think it is a great way to move freight!

It can be a great way to travel @paigea We enjoy the sounds of the trains at night, but during the day other sounds seem to drown out the trains.

@PatZAnthony The track close to us is a track owned by a farmer's cooperative. They mostly only run in the day but it is quiet out here so we hear them.

We used to have passenger trains, but for some reason, they are not anymore a means of transportation. In the city where I live., there are suburban trains travelling some km away from the city, but not further

These are used in the USA for commuters in some areas and for long-distance travel in others, but main also for moving freight @quantum2020

In my city, we don't have one. Most of the trains are in the capital of the Philippines. The oldest train Philippine National Railway (PNR) is still functional and I only tried once on this train a few months ago. Image Credit: http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/files/2015/03/pamasahe1.jpg

The trains are pretty far from us. My husband loved to listen to the sound of a train during the night. I am the opposite, I find a train in the night makes me very sad.

Yes, we have trains here, usually only a few trains circulate during the night, not to disturb sleeping people.

The trains here move at night, but the noise does not bother us. It must be terrible for those living closer to the tracks @LadyDuck

@PatZAnthony This is the reason why we have very few trains that circulate during the night, the authorities try to protect the sleep of those living near the tracks.

One of - the top reason - we sold our previous home was the train. We were 1 mile from the train tracks, - not passenger tains, freight and they do all day and all night. They used to blow the whistle 19 times as they went thru our back woods area. It was the most annoying thing. Now we are far far far from any train....that was a requirement.

We are close to the trains but there is enough with woods and houses to keep the noise from being overly loud here @AbbyGreenhill

@PatZAnthony Our situation was just farmland between us We could actually hear the wheels on the tracks and at times it sounded like it was coming up our driveway it was so loud.

Yes, and if I'm stuck in traffic by one and the gates are just going down, I have a habit of counting cars.

OH yes we have trains but they are terribly packed. I feel so sorry for the commuters to London. The prices are extortionate and most people end up standing. It is absolutely horrible to travel like that. Packed into the train like sardines!

Only in Florida, and usually at night, but I rarely hear them. I do love the sound. It brings back memories of train travel with my grandma.

Some people will complain about anything. How do they expect things to be moved if there aren't at least a few trains? I love hearing trains and I like travelling on them too.

It could be those living next to the noise would be more disturbed than we would be as we are just far enough away that the noise is muted.
