Wow! A Mealtime Wake Up Call!

Wowser! That's Hot!

I know that horseradish can be hot so I always just put just a little taste on my roast beef or steak for that reason. Too many times I have thought for a split second I was going to die from that blast of heat that sears through your nostrils when you eat too much. Sushi/sashimi lovers will also know that too much Wasabi paste (which contains hot horseradish) can also put a momentary scare in you as you chomp down on that terrifying hot taste on your California or Dynamite Roll--... However, I was unprepared the other day because I had become too relaxed and complacent about the possible effects since most of the horse radish we bought lately was pretty mild and boring. OMG- that was a wake up call! I was about to call 911 when I swallowed that bite and sincerely thought I would never breathe again! That spoonful of super hot horseradish must have been accidentally hiding under my thin cut roast beef from the teaspoon I used adding it to my sandwich! The fire alarm bells should have gone off! But thankfully, God granted me more time-- and I am still alive. I will be very careful from now on to taste a little bit before I chomp down on a 1/2 mouthful of extreme horseradish!

Wow, that must have been a lot more then just mild. I've never had horseradish except for when I use it to make shrimp sauce to dip in.

Lol! That's hilarious! I just returned from dinner and had a bit too much wasabi on my sushi. Hot, indeed, but l love a teeny bit of heat.

I'm sure you will. I will never forget the day my son upended a bottle of hot sauce into his mouth thinking it was ketchup. He was a toddler, we were in a hotel restaurant, and he had it upended before I could stop him. To my knowledge he hasn't done that since.

I'm not keen on hot stuff so I mostly avoid such items. It sounds really hot - it would spice up my stodge though wouldn't it?

Oh yes it would! I don't know if hot horseradish in that stodge would go down well- maybe do it and feed it to the guests you DONT like--ha!

I like a bit of horseradish in certain dishes. Like it also on sandwiches, but in condiments that are already prepared.

Always keep a glass of water handy when using horseradish. I don't use it myself, just a bit in borscht.

Horseradish is weird- not really spicy but just hot in your throat and sinuses for a good blast---:/

Glad you survived that horseradish attack and lived to tell us about it. I can't eat it as even mild is too hot for me
