A Pyrenees butterfly

While we’ve been travelling in a foreign (to us) land we’re kept an eye open for sights that we wouldn’t normally see. While high in the Pyrenees Mountains we came across this very beautiful butterfly.
Usually butterflies close their wings once they land making it difficult to get a snapshot of their most beautiful aspect. But for some reason this one stayed poised long enough for Vince to get a nice shot of it. I thought it was very pretty with its delicate colouring.

It is gorgeous! I love the body - it looks like fur. Poised on that beautiful purple flower makes the perfect setting for it. I bet he could sell that picture to National Geographic. They always have fantastic pictures taken by cameras. Not that he would.

@JudyEv That is a fantastic looking butterfly. I have seen many in my years of travel, but I have never seen one like that before. I did grow up in France when I was younger. I guess we never visited the places you are visiting now. Plus, I was 13 when I left France. So this might be another reason I never saw one before. Kids notice certain things but overlook other.

We saw another unusual one too so I'll put that up another time. I'm glad you like it.

Its great that you have been spending time with nature. Most of my time is spent at Home, Office, back to home, back to Office, and occasionally those Malls, whose shiny and sanitized environments call us to spend more and more, and leave our pockets much more lighter!

We've never enjoyed being in big cities and with our largish motor-home it can be quite stressful trying to negotiate narrow streets and find parking. We have really enjoyed seeing so much of the French countryside.

We see a lot of these Scottish thistle type flowers. We saw some huge ones once but couldn't stop to take photos.

He is a much more patient photographer than I am but I am the often the one who spots things and says 'you should take a photo of this'.

I think it is a moth but it has beautiful colouring and how lucky to catch it on the flower!

It could well be. I'll have to research the difference. Good idea for a post - and I don't like being wrong! Only in the sense of giving out wrong information.

It is, isn't it? I do need to point out that I found it for him. Can't have him taking all the credit.

I have never seen a butterfly before with those shades of light blue. Such design.
