Yesterday we visited Chenonceau Chateau in the Loire Valley in France. It is first mentioned in the 11th century but the current building was erected in 1514-1522 on the foundations of an old mill. Later a bridge was added to span the river Cher (1556-1559) then from 1570 to 1575, a gallery was built on the bridge.
The round tower on the left of the photo is what remains of what was once a fortified building. After two attempts to find the right entrance, we discovered camping-cars (motor-homes) had their very own carpark.
There were dozens of cars, dozens of people of all nationalities and it was hard to get much space to get really good photos. Vince went off down the river-bank to get the iconic shot but I sheltered under the bridge as it drizzled most of the day.
Next post I’ll write about the magnificent gallery.

I love it's shape and architecture.... I hope the inside was as interesting as the outside ...

Just a little "shack" they lived in. A magnificent structure.
