It was a Success

And I'm glad it's over! Friday evening I had a dinner party for my son's future inlaws. I also included my future daughter-in-law's aunt and uncle. My son and his fiancée were also there. I almost made a big mistake by not serving one of the three bottles of wine Aunt Bonnie brought. We had plenty of fine bottles of wine to serve with dinner which were opened and "breathing" on the dining room table. My son told me that Aunt Bonnie would take it as a huge insult, since she is an oldtime Yankee WASP (White Anglo Saxon Protestant). We switched the bottles immediately just before everyone entered the dining room. I never heard of such a thing. Have you?

Yes, some are insulted if you don't offer what they bring. It is kind of funny. If they don't ask us what they can bring to go with what we are serving, it could get complicated!

At least it worked out. I truly thought my son was kidding me, but he wasn't. Crazy, but I will remember this for the rest of my life.

I was raised that it is polite to at least offer what your guests have brought

Though I am one who never feels insulted, okay, I let them be history as fast as I possibly can. Yeah, certain customs are better learned and followed. Happy for you - siva
