Do you like to talk to older people?

August 17, 2017 6:18pm CST
Oh... The wisdom of older people. I appreciate their life experience so much... It always makes me very excited and inspired me to run after my dreams and make them real. Today I visited an old people's shelter to make a donation and it was an incredible time! Can you see this as a good experience or do you avoid talking to them?

The word "older people" changes for me with time. I once read, when I was a kid, about a 50 year old OLD LADY in a story by Louise M. Alcott. I did not find it strange. Now my babies are 50 and 52 years of age and I am not so old at 72. I accept that my knees are old (I have an appointment with a doctor for next week), I am mildly irritated by what my younger grandchildren do with technologyut I still can give literary lessons to my eldest granddaughter and lessons of life to my daughters when they are in trouble. Am I old?

Talking to strangers makes me very anxious, no matter their age. I must say elders tend to be as wise as children, they tend to focus on the here and now when giving advice, they enjoy the simple things of life, they're happy with having a coffee with peers at a bar. They enjoy walking, seeing how things changed through the years, they're sluggish but they continue their walk at a steady pace. Well, these are the Italian elders, they can be a nice inspiration. But it could be different elsewhere.

No I enjoy old people's company. They have so many stories to tell and have experienced so much. There is only one old person who company became a little much. Why? He kept repeating the same stories over and over each time I saw him. And could he talk

I'll speak to people regardless their age. If they are a nice and/or interesting person, that's all that matters. I was out last night, in fact, with a group of people - the youngest was 23, the oldest was 71. I'm 30something, the other 3 were 40something. We had a great time. None of us see the 71 year old as an 'old person'. She was dancing and was, in fact, out longer than the 23 year old! We all found things in common and it was awesome. I don't think it really occurred or mattered to anyone about our age range!

Yes I do like it very much. Nothing informative as talking to older people, by the way I am also 37 this year, so 3 more years will be 40.

Talking to older people is like going to college to learn new things. It fun when you engage in conversation with old people but it requires your patience because talk bit by bit but very sense making.

I love talking to people. I especially enjoy the stories I hear from older people. They have the most amazing experiences. My dad was one of them and he's told me a lot of stories when he was in the war and his trip to Germany and how he became a 32nd degree Mason. Those things, you just don't get to experience. I also get to listen to a lot of random people's stories. Some of them have happy stories to tell while some do not. I especially enjoy listening to their stories about what they had when they were kids, what the money was worth back then, how life was in general. When I used to work in a call center, I'd get calls from older people and they'd talk about their grand kids, or how they visited the place where I live or how happy they are they get to speak with someone.

When I was a teenager I loved to talk to the older people. My parents managed a "retirement"-type hotel in Daytona Beach where a lot of "snowbirds" came and stayed for the winter. It was so much fun to sit and talk to them! Now, of course, I am an "older person"...
