Beans and Ham for Supper

United States
August 17, 2017 8:12pm CST
My day was so quiet that this is the headline, my supper! I fixed fresh green beans cooked with ham. I usually put chunks of potato in it but instead substituted cauliflower. It was much healthier and tasted every bit as good! Now it's a new recipe! I also spent time at my art table doing some painting and making things for my pen pal. I put the Artist Trading Card I made on Instagram. I got a letter out to her in the mail also. Fun to have a quiet day!

When you wrote beans and ham I'm thinking baked beans or bean soup, the navy bean type. Green beans would be good too but I'm not sure I've ever had it with ham before. I had a semi-quite day too as it was supposed to rain most of the day so we opted against doing any windows and it only sprinkled here and there. The sun even came out for a bit. I got a bit of cleaning done, but I have loads more to do too.

It's getting to be fall cleaning time. My windows could use a little cleaning too! I cook navy beans and ham together for a wonderful soup but my son is low carving it so I chose veggies instead. It's more summery anyway.

@Jeanniemaries If you meant low-carbing, beans are supposed to be low in carbs. I know that refried beans are good for that as I do it also. In fact, beans may be lower in carbs than many veggies although we need the vitamins in those as well. Is this the first time he's done that? I've done it several times and been quite successful and have tried to maintain it somewhat although I do get carried away when not following it when eating candy.

Your beans and ham sound wonderful! I had a tooth pulled, so I'm on soft foods for a bit.

Ouch! Well, I can understand. You wouldn't want the ham But the beans and cauliflower were nice and soft.

Quiet days are good for us. I live on a busy street and it is usually very busy so when it is quiet I really like it. That means the neighbors dogs barking all the time is a blessing not to hear.

@Jeanniemaries It wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the dogs barking. The train tracks are a block and a half away and I can sleep through them but those dogs are something else.

Once....long ago we rented a house on a busy street and I was bothered by the constant noise, so I never did again...but the house I'm renting while visiting up north is near a busy street, so I hear the sirens and some traffic noises. It doesn't bother me much at all now that I'm older and am not putting kids down for naps! haha

@velvet53 I hear trains too, and love them. Barking dogs you find everywhere. In Florida my house has only 2 neighbors but I can hear dogs from the next street over. Good thing it doesn't bother me. They bothered my mom a lot!

What is your Instagram account? There's a group on Instagram with people who love to exchange letters but I've been too busy I couldn't find the time to have pen pals. I really want to have one though.

I'm at jeanniemaries4 on Instagram. There are probably more than one group of people who exchange letters. I have several pen pals. It's been harder to keep up with them since being back in Ohio with my kids and old friends But I'm hanging in there. Haha!

Bean and ham is very good, I like potatoes with it, I do not like cauliflower.

@Jeanniemaries The only way I like cauliflower is oven-roasted or fried in batter.

I'm happy that I like both. I really love to make just plain cream of cauliflower soup.

It's been quite a few years for me too since I made it last. It was really good.
