A Few Heart Pounding Moments This Morning

United States
August 18, 2017 8:00am CST
Have you ever been scared awake? That's what happened to me this morning. It was 5am and I was sound asleep and probably having sweet dreams when this massively loud boom sounded right above my house and startled me so much that I swear I levitated off my bed by a few inches. My heart was pounding and it sounded so loud that I thought a house had blown up or something had exploded in the neighborhood. After a few seconds another earth shattering boom and then lightening. OMG it was a nasty thunderstorm passing through but it scared the heck outta me. At this point I didn't know if I should stay up or just try to go back to sleep so I opted for the later and did manage to fall back asleep once the storm quieted down. We've had some pretty bad thunderstorms here this summer but this one takes the cake. And I thought the alarm clock was the most annoying sound early in the morning

We are going to have one during the coming night, I hope not to hear the noise of hail, this is something that makes me sick.

@Marilynda1225 We had pouring rain, but it was fine, at least it stopped the open door concert that is held every year at this time.

Sorry that happened to you! I hate it when thunderstorms do that in the middle of the night.

At least I know my heart is working fine. It was a few minutes before the pounding stopped. That's probably the loudest clap of thunder I've heard in ages

When you are awake and have a storm at least you are prepared, but when you're asleep it's a different ball game. I might have assumed our propane tank blew up if that happened to me.

It certainly scared the heck out of me and it wasn't like a little booming to wake me and then the big thunderous clap. We're in for more storms later today and tonight

Last month. I heard the most powerful thunder strike in my life. I asked someone if that was the highest sound she had heard and she agree with me. Lately, nature is changing

I'm glad it wasn't anything more serious than a thunderstorm. Yes, they can get loud. Usually I don't hear them if I'm asleep. They're earth shattering when I do hear them and they wake me up.

I woke up and yes, I'm glad I did. Otherwise I wouldn't be here to tell my tale of woe

That was how th last one was here too, lightening struck a tree in the filed right by the house and the house shook and the Boom was what made me jump. Woke Tony and freaked out Roscoe. They are worst this year than I can ever remember.
