I Need a New Laptop

My laptop is more than 2 years old. I used it for both my offline and my online work. I don't want to use a separate laptop because I bookmarked my sites for easy access. One of my sites, Humanatic requires the use of audio because I need to review and audit calls. However, last month, my laptop started to give me some issues. The audio is not functioning and the processing of my documents is somehow slow. This is the reason why I could not work on Humanatic as of the moment. I want to bring it to the technician for repair but I am thinking that since it is more than 2 years old, perhaps I need to buy a new one. I will still have it repaired but I need to buy a new one and will be using it for back up.

Maybe that is the reason. But if its just a minor problem and the technician can fix it, why not. But if you have your budget, but new one now.

I will have it repaired but I will just use it for backup. There are also times when my daughter's classmates would stay at home for their project or thesis, I can have them use it. They would usually sleep over when there are things needed to be done.

my laptop is more than two years and I'm still using it right now. New one is just so expensive that I put to hold my plan to buy.

Two years is too short a life for a laptop. Most of them easily last 5 years for usual use. Have you tried clearing files and freeing memory and running a reliable virus scan. If your headphone jack is not working well you can use a cheap external sound card (costs only 3-5$) and get the sound working.

I have it scheduled for reformatting. But the audio seems to be a hardware problem. I will research on external sound card and what it can do with my problem. Thank you for this information.

@pitstop Yes, hopefully. So that even if I have a new one, I could still make use of this. Or better yet, I could wait until the holidays to purchase a new one. I know prices tend to go down during the holiday season.

If ever I purchase a new laptop, I will make sure not to bring it anymore with me every time. I think that was the reason why it was damaged. I will still bring with me my current laptop and will leave the new one at home.

I'm thinking of buying a new one myself since I had to share this one with my mom. But unfortunately, the new ones no longer support Windows 8.1 that still plays the game I have here. I bought this laptop back in 2014, with the help of Bubblews

I guess I would have to go with whatever operating system the new laptops have nowadays. It's good to know that you still have a remembrance of Bubblews. Yes, that was one of the great sites.

My laptop is working for two jobs. My offline and my online work. That is why it can deteriorate faster. Because I rely on my online job, I need to invest in a high-quality laptop. Thank you for dropping by.

for the past few months, I gave up with my laptop, telling myself that it has been seven fruitful years, but then since the only issue that i have is the keyboard--numbers are not working and i am working with numbers, i was really giving up then having not much budget for a new one, have decided to just buy an external keyboard and now working great :D

@Lucky15 That is what I haven't learned to do. I have asked an officemate to reformat it for me and she told me it would take a whole day so I could not leave my laptop because I am using it.

It took me 5 years to replace my old MacBook Pro into a new one. Compared to my previous windows computer, MacBook Pro was really durable. I had a Toshiba before and then a Sony vaio, but none lasted as long as my MacBook Pro. Hope you get your new laptop soon.

@ARIES1973 I don't think so. I was using MS Office in my old MacBook Pro. I don't need the offie in my new ones since Pages is similar to office. Pages wasn't free in the old MacBook Pros, you have buy them and they were expensive. Now Apple is getting generous each year.

I heard it is very choosy when downloading apps. That you cannot download unless it is from Play Store? I am not sure if I have the right information.

@ARIES1973 It was considered one of the top of the line back then when I bought it... But I don't know how it is now... I heard Samsung or Asus are also very popular these days... Just ask around to find one that best fits your needs and budget...

@sishy7 Yes, I also have to find a brand that has a service center in our area. After sales service is also an important thing to consider.

With eight years, I could say you already recovered the twice or thrice the investment. I am planning to have Samsung or Asus. But with your suggestion, I will consider a Sony Vaio if I could afford the price.

I can allocate around 25 thousand pesos or 500 dollars for the unit. I hope I could find a good product with this amount.

A laptop only 2 years old is still a good computer no matter what. I do computer repair and here is a few suggestions. One you should buy an external hard drive and do a image of your hard drive before taking it to the repair shop. It sounds like you are having a few issues with your hard drive. Today hard drives go out so easily. Replacing your hard drive and loading back the software always corrects these kinds of issues. I personally wouldn't buy a new one. My laptop is onver 9 years old and just replacing the hard drive brought ti back to life.

Wow! Thank you so much for this information. I guess I need first try all possible means before deciding to purchase a new one. Tomorrow is a holiday in our place and perhaps I could visit some repair shops to help me with these issues.

@ARIES1973 You live in the Phillippines and normally hard drives aren't so expensive there. They can easily copy your existing hard drive to a new one. This normally will resolve the issues you are having.

Wow. You must be a pretty hardworking person. Since you are looking for hardcore use, perhaps you might go for a desktop instead. My Toshiba laptop has lasted me for around 7 years. I always make sure that I invest in a proper cooler so that the parts do not overheat.Yes, I spend long hours on my laptop.I currently use my desktop for gaming and working since I do not need to travel much already so mobility is not an issue.

I travel almost everyday so I need something that I can bring anywhere. I am working in another place so I have to travel. A laptop would be the best choice for me. Thank you for the suggestion.
