Invite to Dinner with One that I Adore

My great-nephew has been reaching out to me lately on Facebook. It seems he has seen life through different eyes. Haven't been really close to him, although I have adored him since he was a child. He distanced himself, not because he chose, but because life is just that way sometimes. He invited my husband, granddaughter, and I to join him and his wife for dinner. I didn't get back to him in a timely fashion, so he messaged my husband. They connected quickly. Each loves shooting bow and my husband is bringing his with him tonight. My nephew and hubby will be testing their skills together. Hopefully my nephew's wife and I will connect and find something to talk about while they are playing. This will will be my first time meeting her. But, it is known by many that I have the gift of gab, so I know I'll find plenty to talk about. They have peach trees and berry bushes on their property. My nephew said I can pick as much as I would like. I envision myself doing some canning and baking soon. I'll freeze the berries. Not sure you can freeze peaches. Maybe make some jam too. I look forward to seeing my nephew again and reconnecting with him, and meeting his wife. Have you lost contact with people from your past and reconnected with them? If they don't reach out to you, would you reach out to them?

Aw. I'm glad you can reconnect, and meet his wife. Hope it was a good time. Yes, i have. With two cousins, over the last 2-3 years. My mom bascially raised them so we were close as kids. But then things happened as teens and it all went down hill. Then off and on talking, then down again, now talking and see one another off and on.

Many my relatives live in other states and we don't see each other often. Thankfully we have Facebook to keep connected.

I am happy you're all getting together, it is nice when family reconnects. My cousins and I aren't close, plus we live in different provinces. Enjoy canning and baking. :)

I am not sure where I put my canning jars. I do have jelly jars though and hope to make some preserves.

@bluesa I have yet to find the time needed to devote to this task. Hoping tonight after work I can at least get it started. I plan on cooking the peaches outside on the grill so I do not overheat the house. The temperature is supposed to be 90 degrees F today.

I have a cousin who was really my best friend. She's two years older than me and she became a nun. When I was pregnant with my son, I suddenly thought of him, and then my phone notification made a sound. It was a message from her! I was so surprised but so happy. Then after ages of not seeing each other, she came in my son's baptism. These days, she calls me when she needs legal advice. You might wonder why might a nun need some legal advice?

I guess everyone needs legal advice now and then. My sister is my BFF. Love her to pieces. She keeps me grounded.

@ElusiveButterfly Maybe but we don't expect nuns to be in a legal battle.

I hope you have a wonderful time with them! I haven't reconnected with anyone lately, I'm more at a place in life where I just want to be with my own family for now.

When my children were young we pretty much kept to ourselves. Aside from family get togethers, we stayed close to home.

I have not been in contact recently with people I do not see from a lot of time. You can freeze peaches, cut them in quarters, toss the cut peaches in a large bowl with lemon juice while cutting so they do not get dark. Place the cut peaches on a cookie sheet and place in the freezer, so they freeze more quickly. Once frozen, store in containers in the freezer.

@ElusiveButterfly I have made jams using ripe figs that I had in the refrigerator. Now a carrot cake is in the oven.

I'm sure you'll have a great time visiting with your nephew and his wife. Maybe Little Miss will enjoy helping pick the berries

We had a wonderful time. Little Miss ate more berries than she put in the bucket, as is typical for any child! She also ate quite a few peaches. They are clearly her favorite fruit.

Yes, you can freeze peaches. I have done so in the past. It sounds like a good evening out. I have had times when I was a little reluctant to meet and greet, and done it anyway and had a great time. Like with my husband's cousin and wife.

I'm sure that you'll have fun today, visiting and picking peaches and berries. I keep a pretty even keel when it comes to my relationships with my family members.

We had a good time together. My nephew helped us pick berries and was having fun watching Little Miss run all over the backyard.

I have connected with people from my past. Sometimes the timing is right and we can cRry on....other times....too much time has past and there is no real connection. I hope things go well for you.

I try to remain connected with family and friends. But, like you said, sometimes there is no longer any common ground to keep the connection.

Enjoy the reconnection with your nephew. It would be fun harvesting his fruit tree and make marmalade out of them.
