We were driving home from the coast this past Saturday night, trying to beat the crazy eclipse traffic, and we hadn't even gotten out of town when a truck veered off the road, bounced off the curb, and slid into an empty parking lot. In a split second the driver was back on the road--cell phone safely in-hand. On the journey home we came across another car weaving in its lane. As we passed by the driver I looked to see the familiar glow of a cell phone on the driver's face as she typed out her oh-so-important text. I noticed this problem over and over as we drove the long miles home. Seriously, folks? You can't wait thirty minutes or find a spot to pull over to text or call? Is your message so important that you would risk your life and the lives of other driving on the freeway? Every year half a million people are injured or killed in accidents caused by texting and driving** and you know what? I don't want to be added to those statistics!!
