One of our ports of call in Norway was the small town of Bergen. It was a beautiful and very clean little town. We had an early breakfast and as soon as the ship had moored up we were off the ship like a rocket to get to the funicular to take us high above the town The views across the town were amazingly breathtaking and well worth the fast paced hike to the funicular.
When we got there we were fourth in line in the queue so we were ready and waiting for the first carriage to take us to the top. We admired the views over the town and had a walk around. There were some mountain goats up there a restaurant and cafe and the obligatory souvenir shop. We spent around an hour up there taking in the views they queued up to come back down again so we could explore the town on foot.
When we reached the ground level the queues for the funicular stretched all the way down the street. It was such a prudent move on our part. We were able to enjoy the rest of our time meandering around the small lanes and alleyways. I would definitely recommend a trip to the summit for a sneaky panoramic view of Bergen and its environs.

@garymarsh6 I have never been to Norway but I experienced food in Sweden, and I suppose they eat the same. People are nice but not their food.

Whale meat, Reindeer,Seal meat and all kinds of bizarre stuff! I think you would need a strong stomach for some of the delicacies on offer!

It looks like a sweet city.
I thought Bergen was more than a "small town" though!
Mountain goats? Really? Were they easy to spot? That could be another great reason to get there.

@garymarsh6 So it's about the size of my city down here.
It can't be small with 278k inhabitants. So that's because of the outer areas, I see.

@sabtraversa In comparison to London with a population of over 8 million it is tiny in comparison!

In comparison to the UK yes it is a smallish town. The centre is very easy to do on foot. The outer areas are mainly residential.

@garymarsh6 I like the small cities where it is still possible to walk around.

The whole area was very beautiful. The town is very easy to walk around as the town centre is quite compact.

@garymarsh6 Isn't it an amazing feeling being on a high mountain and you can see in all directions for miles and miles?

@vandana7 The Brits are generally far too polite apart from little white haired old ladies. No wonder we won the war with their ability to storm past people in the shops and grab what they want.

There was a small herd of Mountain goats roaming around the top of the peak.

@garymarsh6 I would love that too. I used to love in the UK when it was the long light summer nights.

Haha the early bird and all that springs to mind. I loved the fact that it was daylight for around 22 hours a day while we were there!

Sometimes it pays to make the extra effort to be first in line - or almost first!
