Dearth of interesting discussions.

Whenever I log into mylot I find few discussions of my choice in either of the categories. The discussions started by some mylotters are mainly about personal matters and routine activities, where I find that I can contribute a little. May be my choice has become poor lately. I just wanted to have an opinion of others, whether they also find that now a days there is dearth of interesting discussions on mylot or they find discussions of their choice. I have also noticed that number of active mylot members is limited and there is no noticeable rise in the number of active members. Picture is by me.

Well if you don't like what you're finding start an interesting discussion yourself. I suppose we are all very different and what is interesting to one person is not going to be so interesting to another. Personally I like hearing about other people's lives and what they're doing because it's all about culture and people fascinate me.

Thanks for your suggestion, this is what I have done and I have started my own discussion. Yes, you are very right that we have different kinds of interests and what may be interesting to you may not be interesting to me. It is interesting that you love to hear about life of mylotters and it fascinates you.

@hereandthere - I would like to respond to those discussions, which are general in nature and where I could say something or share my own experiences about it.

I have read yesterday very interesting discussions. There are the usual "personal" discussions, but many members still post interesting topics to read. May be you are not active enough to notice.

@dpk262006 There are a lot (too many) Good Morning and Good Night posts, those are not discussions and quite frankly they should have no place here.

There are times I can find a lo to relate to and comment on. Then there are times I scroll down forever before anything interest me and I can relate to it. I guess some days we can find a lot and others it is not to our liking.

@poehere You have developed a set pattern and you have devised a strategy to read and respond interesting discussions. You also find discussions of your choice. Good to hear that you have a set group of friends here and you love to respond to their posts and you go into long conversation with them. Keep it up.

You mean to say that it is simply a matter of chance that some day we find discussions of our choice and some day we keep on searching and find nothing. It is good to hear that you find interesting discussions to respond.

@dpk262006 I really wouldn't consider this a change. I guess I would say it is more the mood of the people and what they decide to write this day. I search down and read the title and the first two lines. If the first two lines seem interesting, I will open the post and read it. Yesterday, I responded to a post I normally would never read, but this person was so bold and attacking the way women drive. I had to say how I felt on this one. I have a very small group of people I enjoy talking to here. I get into long conversations with them on a post. These are normally the first ones I respond to when they write. I am not saying I respond to all of their posts, but I do respond to a great many of them. I can relate to some of them so well because I too have similar things that have happened or are happening that make me laugh or relate to their posts.

I know I can be a culprit of writing about personal matters . But as far as choosing discussions, I am limited on time, so I can only do the ones that truly catch my eye . . . I wish I had time to get to everyone (it's just not possible). Oh gosh, I feel terrible I had been missing your posts for a long time again . . . I hadn't seen you on my Recent Discussions for a long time (is it timing maybe?). You tend to create thought provoking discussions - and I appreciate that . . . I always have many words to contribute to your stuff !

I feel that even if you write about personal matters, you write in such a manner that you will elicit responses. I sometimes miss to see your discussions due to time gap or due to other reasons, I am guilty of that. I understand that you reply to those discussions which catch your eyes. It is true that you just cannot reply to all the discussions. Thanks for your kind words about my discussions, I feel honored. PS - I will check your discussion soon.

There are times that a title doesn't sound interesting but once I get to reading the discussion it is good. I like to comment on many different topics so when I can I scroll through and find what sounds like what I am looking for at the time.

I understand what you are saying, but most people write about what is happening in their lives. News we get enough of on TV and online....some stuff is too serious or controversial -

Thanks a lot for understanding my point. No other respondent so far got what I wanted to convey. It might be interesting to hear about happenings in a friend's life whom we know in a better manner and feels closer. However, on such discussions, we have very little to comment. You are right that serious or controversial matters should also not be discussed.

Yes, many of the active mylotters are missing due to one reason or the other. May be they are too busy in their offline activities and they do not have time to spend on mylot. I can understand that your have many responsibilities to discharge, therefore, you are less visible on mylot.
