Tiny house living.

i think a lot of you will remember me talking about tiny house living. It is something that I have been interested in at various levels. I've had my reluctance, but i feel as if it is something for me. It is actually something I hope to accomplish within the next couple of years. I have a friend who owns a piece of land and has a place where I can put such a thing. I do not think I will be going with the ones you build onto a trailer. Instead I am going to buy a building and make a home out of that. I am still in the early planning stages as I have a lot more to save - and consider before I go about starting the project.

Youtube is my best friend when it comes to that. I have enjoyed looking at youtube videos, there are several people who go around the world and tour the different tiny houses. Now that I have a pretty good idea of how I want to do it (using a shed) I can search for ideas from people who have convered a shed.

@ScribbledAdNauseum YouTube is literally awesome. I've watched Tiny houses around the world even Japan has nifty ones! You should document your journey too if you'd like , that'd be really cool.

@infatuatedbby That would be something worth doing for sure. If not the whole thing, I could do a tour once it is done and put it up on youtube. Actually, I think that would probably be the easiest way for me to show everyone here.

I will be posting about it when I am in the process of obtaining what I need and working on it. I am shooting for sometime next summer. I need to find a job again but I am working on a savings plan anyway and of course I wlll have online earnings to help me as well. I hope to get as many things as possible for free or cheap. Repurposing things and the like.

@TiarasOceanView The area that the home will be in is in a rural area. My tiny house will be like the "practice" so to speak for a "man cave" that my brother in law (my best friend's hubby) wants to do. I am super super excited about it. I don't know anything much about building but I will learn along the way. They already have electricity ran out to the part of the yard I will be putting the house in, and so I would just have to run septic to the building and figure out water as well. I joked with her and said that when she has kids it will just be a matter of telling them to "go see aunt amber" if they wanted alone time! lol

This will be a big change for you! I am honestly really excited to see how it turns out as I've been watching those Tiny House episodes on cable. What's interesting to hear whenever I watch that show is how much square feet is in a tiny house to consider it a tiny house. Here where I live, those tiny houses are considered normal sized. Anything bigger would be a mansion to us. Haha. I hope that when you do decide to do this, you'll post the pics so I can see one in real life ( well, at least not on a show.)

@ScribbledAdNauseum I have! I am also amazed at how ingenius some of the furniture are to save as much space as possible! I'd like to do that with my house too one of these days. I feel that I can add more space and make it look better than what I have now. ohhh. do keep us posted! I am beyond excited.

@rosedust82 I am intrigued by the pieces of furniture on casters (wheels). I love that you can roll it away. I saw a piece of furniture on a youtube video. It was on casters and it was two tables that could be locked into one table. it has to be my favorite piece of furniture yet.

I plan to maybe even do some videos of it. It will be a long while yet, but it will get done. I just have to make a plan on saving and start gathering information on what I need versus what I want. Have you gone on youtube and watched videos from people who live in them? There is a lot of videos like that on youtube. I watched a vlog once where a man and his wife went to a tiny house type conference. They had a bunch of different tiny houses to look at, and some of the ideas were very very cool.

I watch a show on cable about tiny house living. I think if a person is organized and they get claustrophobic it can be done.

I only have a few things that I really need. Some clothes, one or two sentimental items, and the rest would be necessities like plates, cups etc.

@celticeagle Yes. Obviously a few towels, some bed linens... I think I would want to get a couple of hot plates instead of a proper stove / oven. I saw a tiny house with one of those rotisserie style counter top ovens on it. I would get that and that would leave cabinet space. I wouldn't even require a dish washer and I could get a washer and just use a clothesline for drying clothes.

I have seen this kind of houses featured on TV and magazines. It actually seems interesting, though the idea is quite new to me.

The whole "tiny house movement" is still very new. A lot of people are picking it up.

@JeeyanDee Yes, I know it has made its way to a few different countries, but not very many yet. If you think about it, it's not such a new concept. There are apartment's in Japan that are much much tinier than the tiny homes.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Yeah they are. It is still not a thing here in my country though, and the concept is still so foreign to many people.

I have been considering in buying one of the tiny houses for myself. I do not need a very big house for myself to live in.

I've been considering the different options they have out there. I think buying a shed would be the best option for me. I know there are some tiny house builders in my State, but I would rather do it myself. Were you going to get someone to make it for you ?

@Scrapper88 They can be more expensive that way but the people who build those things definitely know what they are doing. I have seen some very innovative tiny homes.

I love tiny houses. I watch the programs on TV. I think I could live in one. We don't need as much stuff as we think.

I haven't watched the program,, isn't it on HGTV? I do look at videos on youtube I agree, we have so many things that are not necessary for us to have. I would want something no smaller than 450 sq. ft.
