Freeman School Shooting

The hearts of everyone in the Freeman School District and the Spokane area are broken. The Freeman School is located in the small community of Freeman, Washington, about twenty miles southeast of Spokane, Washington. It is said the male suspect entered the school with several guns in his backpack. He pulled out a rifle which jammed. A student, who other students said was the suspect’s best friend, stepped up and told the suspect that this was not what he should do. The suspect pulled a handgun from his backpack, shot and killed the student. The suspect shot three more students. It is not clear how a custodian at the school stopped the suspect. He either wrestled the suspect to the ground or simply talk him into putting his weapon down. Shortly thereafter the school resource officer arrived and handcuffed the suspect. The three victims were taken to a Spokane hospital. Two were taken by ambulance and one by helicopter. All three were listed in stable condition on Wednesday evening and are expected to make a full recovery. The suspect was taken to juvenile detention. One student claimed the suspect handed out notes to his friends at the beginning of the school year saying he was going to do something that would result in him being jailed or killed. One of the letters was supposed to have been given to a school counselor. However police say they have no evidence of this. Prayers would be much appreciated. #Freemanstrong

I didn't realize the student who was killed was his best friend . The shooter definitely had issues but it's terrible it had to come to this. We can't understand these shootings, but at the same time, I'll bet the shooter (any of 'em in these school shootings) didn't feel understood by society. How tragic and oh it's so near you - but we all feel it. What an insane world we live in .

It come out today that the shooter said he wanted to teach everyone a lesson because he was bullied. He said he wasn't aiming to shoot anyone in particularly, he just was going to shoot someone.

@RichardMeister Yikes. It seems to always be about revenge. It's sad that that yes they were victimized (like being bullied) to some degree, but they couldn't find any other way to cope with it. It's as if to say they hurt me, so I'm going to hurt someone - anyone.

I will pray for all concerned. What I don't understand why such a terrible and senseless thing had to happen and how it could be prevented in the future. Glad the three victims will survive and sorry for the one killed. When I went to high school in the 1970s my friends and I would never in out wildest dreams think that such a thing could or would happen in our high school.
