My boyfriend has been working in Raiatea for the past 4 weeks. He will fly back to Tahiti for 5 days. Currently his job has taken him to a small Motu (small island off the larger island) to build 4 houses, a boat dock, and a bridge from the Motu to the main island. This weekend he will be climbing the 25 foot coconut tree in our yard and cutting down the coconuts. They are very dangerous now and I have to be careful for the dogs going outside in the back. I have had a lot of coconuts drop off the tree in the past 2 weeks. We also have the fence to fix in the yard so Nita can’t break it again, Nita has been attached on his chain because each time I let him off he jumps the fence and takes off to play in the river. Monday and Tuesday is a work day for him because he has so many things to do for his work on the islands. Then back to Raiatea on Wednesday. Not a lot of time for much, but it will be good to see him for a few days. Do you have any exciting plans for your weekend? Hope it is a good weekend for all and have fun and enjoy your time with your family and friends.

Sounds like you have a busy 5 days coming up. I often wondered how many people get hit by falling coconuts. I would think if a person got hit square in the head they would be knock out cold. Do they make any noise as they fall?

It is loud when it hits and you can hear it coming off as it hit the palm leaves when it's falling.

@RichardMeister It happens and there are times you don't know one is going to fall. It hasn't happened at my home but around the islands it has happened. There is no guarantee that when it falls you can get out of the way and they fall without warning.

@poehere So the possibility of someone getting whacked in the head isn't very likely unless they are paying more attention to their smartphone than what's going on around them.

That sounds like a lot of fun. My best friend was here this morning and on Sunday she is having a ginat breakfast and wants us to go there. Her sister will be there tomorrow and it is her sister's husband birthday. So she is planning a big ordeal on Sunday and wants the two of us there.

It seems that you are busy. I remember the coconut that missed my head when I was kid. Thankfully it did miss.

@jobelbojel Yes this one is not hard. I can even do this with the help of a ladder. He climbs the tall one with his barefeet and hands. No ropes or anything.

It is scary when they do fall. We have 2 coconut trees in our yard. One is only 8 feet tall but the one that is 25 feet is the one I worry about the most.

I never thought about coconuts falling and hitting people. It will be good to get them off the tree safely. No big plans for the weekend here, farmers' market and a few errands is all I know about.

@poehere I know they are really big and heavy with that husk on them. Being under one could be deadly.

@JamesHxstatic That is what I am afraid of. The dogs are small and if one hit them it could kill them. I'd hate to see this.

Once the giant bunches turn from green to yellow then to brown they fall from the tree. It is a loud boom in the yard and makes a lot of nice. They fall down and it is like a rocket because they are heavy. If you are in the way they can really do some damage. We keep them cut all the time because this tree is so tall.

@poehere Coconuts are heavy and it is surely dangerous when they start to fall from the tree. I hope he can take care of the tree soon.

@LadyDuck He has taken them off one tree today and tomorrow morning we will do the other one. Then we don't need to worry for about a year until they come back again.

He also came home to take care of stuff here. We were to cut the tree and remove the coconuts before he left but there was too much wind. It was too dangerous for him to cut the coconuts at this time. In the last month he has been gone I started to have them fall out of the tree and it is dangerous. So he came home for this and to take care of a few other things for his work.
