Sadly we met people from the islands that lost their total house

The first night we stopped on our way to the northeast, we met a family from the island of Turks and Caicos that flew into Florida as their house was totally flattened. The couple and their teenage son have lived on the island for years as their parents did. When the parents passed away, they decided to stay and keep both houses. The teenage son was in college and really loved it there. We spoke to them in the hotel and we knew then that we made the right decision to leave when we did. The couple looked so lost and I wish I had more time to listen to them. We were all so tired we just fell asleep. The hotel we were in closed at noon the next morning so we never saw them again. These people plan on going back and rebuilding both houses.

This is a crazy year. I never saw so many hurricanes and other disasters that are happening now. I don't know how some of the people are going to survive.

@MarymargII Every day there seems to be another problem somewhere. I think watching the earthquake in Mexico was the worst as they were trying to rescue children that were underneath. People could actually hear the kids crying and yelling for help.

@ramapo17 Yes, Nancy- it is shocking and upsetting- hope it ends soon! Look at the devastation in Puerto Rico.

Builders everywhere would benefit from these loses I think. Let hope people have money to re-build their houses.

I was just looking at cruises in the newspaper today and wondering if there will be any islands for the people to visit.

@dgobucks226 My son is going out of Florida on a cruise this coming weekend. He and his girlfriend live in New Jersey and they are flying in here Thursday and will go on the ship Saturday. He is not going to any island that was hit with the storms.

@ramapo17 Wow, yes what is going to happen there? I had friends who went to St. Maarten and Bermuda. It is going to really hurt the cruise industry that ships out of Florida.

It really is. People work so long to get what they want and to have it taken away in one day is sad.

A friend had suggested us to go to live to Turks and Caicos. I told my husband that I loved him, but I was not ready to go to live on a small Island. I was right.

@ramapo17 I would not even want a vacation house in the Caribbean, if you are not there the humidity spoils everything and living there is too dangerous.

You are a smart lady. It sounds like fun if it is a vacation house but I would never want to live anywhere that could be so dangerous.

@LadyDuck I know. It is always nice to visit but I would never move there either. My husband wanted to many years ago but we never even looked at any houses.

I cannot even imagine it. And those people said there was nothing at all left on their island. Everyone had to evacuate.

@JudyEv It seems things just keep getting worse and worse all over the place. There is hardly any good news these days.

@ramapo17 It must be devastating. Where would they start? It's horrendous and must be a nightmare for the authorities too.

That's so sad and heartbreaking to hear...I can imagine their pain especially after having an attachment.Loosing property is painful.I pray that the transition will be smoother and they will get the help they need.
