No electricity means terrible problems.

Decades ago, we needed water to keep alive. But nowadays we are also hooked to electricity. When I think about Puerto Rico with no electricity in the whole island (and to make it worse ans island with a warm climate) I cannot but think about all the things we keep in our freezers and how everything is wasted. In the 2010 earthquake in my country, I had no electricity for 3 days. Fortunately, my stove is a gas stove. And I stood in front of the freezer every time I wanted something, until my mind found it and only then I opened the door. I hope that Puerto Rico´s electricity will be back soon. But as I heard on TV, the amount of the damages will be very big. This is another place to send prayers and good vibes.

If I think how much we miss the electricity even when they have to take it out for only one hour I can imagine the problems of Puerto Rico. It's hot down there, very hot.

I heard in the news that it could take 4 to 6 months before the electricity comes back. I don't know how they are going to handle that.

Although its rare we get hurricane winds, we do at times get tornado`s. And for that reason I have began to home can A LOT. because its possible to lose all your food that is in the deep freezer.

We had 3 days with no electricity after the earthquake in 2010. I did not lose much, but I bet it was worse with many people. My grandchildren open the fridge for anything.

As a territory of the US, Puerto Rico will receive food, water and shelters as quickly as possible. That's not fast enough, I know, when you're in a situation like that. Electricity is such an integral part of modern day life that it's hard to imagine a long period of time without it.

When I did not have electricity for 3 days after the 2010 quake, I did not dare eat the seafood after the lack of energy.

After Hurricane Sandy, we had family and friends who were without electricity for 14 days. One couple was literally 4 houses up the street. We were so lucky that we happened to be on a different part of the grid and we lost power for only 1 day. This was in November when we needed heat! Another couple had no electric for a month and no heat for almost 2 months!

@marguicha spending time at our house and buying generators once they became available. It was a struggle but people opened their homes and had others over for food, to do laundry, and to spend time where there was heat. Every day people would rush to home improvement stores looking for generators. My dad paid a fortune for one that he used for a few days and then passed it on to my sister who used it for 2 weeks. My friends used 2 generators for lights, the fridge, and space heaters for 2 months. It was crazy.

When there is no electricity, I think the worst is the hospital. Many patients depend on the machines to keep them alive. It is hard to imagine how the hospital run without the electricity.

We all pray for their fast recovery. Its always sad to hear news like this. Its really difficult to live without electricity these days but I think as long as water supply is good things are better. We also experience having no electricity for few days, its difficult yes but we survive, its a good thing that we have other alternatives for cooking and other things...

They will manage to use what they can...hoarding won't benefit anyone. I've had to manage without electricity for an extended period of time. It's mostly a matter of adjusting our thinking.
