Luka and the Runaway Train

I wanted to write about trains and getting derailed. I looked for images on Pixabay that might help me flesh out the post. The pictures reminded me of the song Runaway Train by Soul Asylum way back in 1993. So I watched the video on YouTube. When I hear Runaway Train, I always remember another song, Luka by Suzanne Vega, released in 1987. I watched it, too. They're both pop songs that are easy to sing along with, but Runaway Train is about missing children, while Luka is about child abuse. See, I got derailed and ended up in a different track.

you're right. there's a movie called runaway train back in 1985, but no, this song is not the soundtrack.

I never heard about that song. A train journey resembles many things.

One thing leads to another, I don't remember the songs but I've always been interested with trains. When I went to College in Kansas when I lived in NY I took the train. Had a sleeper car the first day and got on a different train in Chicago and it was filled with kids like me heading to Kansas and college, fun ride.

you nailed it - one thing leads to another! so you moved from the east coast to the midwest? was it the school or the region that attracted you?

@hereandthere It was the school that took me to Kansas, It was a four year college and run by the Baptist Church. (my family Church) A good school and affordable. I met my husband there first year, I moved on the the Kansas City Art Institute two years later. By that time my man was graduating so I moved to a wonderful art school. Loved the Art Institute. Ottawa University was and I think is still a good 4 year collage. ( not enough art for me so I left.)

Two great songs no doubt! The performance of Soul Asylum when the vocalist threw his guitar and it landed on his head was iconic.

Oh, what got you thinking about derailing trains? I actually think about that whenever I see a train. See, I have not yet ridden a train - even though we have a train system locally. There was a bad train accident out here a few years ago (fault of the engineer who was texting ) - I believe it was a head on collision and many people perished. Anyway, I think about things like that.

My name is Luka, I live on the second floor. I live upstairs from you. Guess I think you've seen me before... Run away Tain never going back, wrong way on a one way track. Seems like I should be getting somewhere, somehow I'm neither here nor there. Can't help it. Back when I was in grade school, Luka was my favorite song. Then when I was in high school, my crush who was already a college student loved the song Ruanway Train.

Songs that have very sad topics, but are catchy tunes, I remember them both well.

Sometimes it is good to be "derailed" and get on another track because you can find something more beautiful in there, just like what happened to you.
