Once A Week Is Easy

Taking the led from @Coral I talked Tony into getting the basement cleaned out, once again, seems like every time I get this into the schedule he gets sick or something takes that time away. A few weeks ago I put it back into the schedule but I never picked a day, I only spoke of it the night before, I reckon so he would not think about and find a way to get out of it. He knows its only going to be from 1 to 2 hours max. Last week Tony did the unthinkable, he swept a small pile of dirt/dust in a pile, the whole time me saying please stop, its not good for you to breathe. And he was sick afterwards a couple days. So this week he was reluctant to do the hour. Most everything is trash but as most know hoarders, they do like to see what it is inside those rotting boxes or tubs. Friday I announced we would get this on Saturday, but that did not happen, he was sickly. So Sunday when I announced "I" would go do it, he agreed to go, I told him to sit on the porch and I would bring the stuff outside and he could toss it in the trash can. When the trash can was filled, we stopped, washed our hands and left. On the way home Tony said " I need a mask and not the paper kind so I can help you finish the floor joists and we can put up the sheet rock." I agreed to find one, like a gas mask. Its much easier to work there in the fall and winter, it was so hot yesterday evening but I got that couple of hours of work in, I am now seeing half a room I did not see before. As much as I love this 100 year old house and how cheap it is to live there, I am not so sure I could again, the houses are so close and everyone has their nose in your business. I talk about renting it out but I have also thought about selling it. To get the best price I will have to repair and doll it up but that is nothing new to me, I know how to get all that done. Back to the point, giving an hour or two is the easiest way I have found to deal with a hoard of things that has been packed up for years and years. And NO, its not like the t.v. shows of food and feces, its junk. How is your day going? Accomplished any super clean out lately?

My day is over and I am going to get off soon. I have so much junk in this house that one day soon things are just going to go flying out the door. Only problem will be how to haul it all away.

See that is why I sit the huge trash can by the door, just pick it up and put it in, I made it easy for him.

I'm glad you got started on it and can see half a room now. Today I did laundry. Not at my daughters as I usually do, but on the second floor here. I just hope I can go to the pool tomorrow. My knees have had it with going up and down those stairs several times.

@andriaperry I did. No hot tub thought. They said there was too much chlorine in it. It'll be back to normal tomorrow.

I cleaned the kitchen this morning but that wasn't anything unusual. I'm also caught up with my notifications here so that is kind of like cleaning lol

Congrats on getting a little bit here and there done. I think it is wisest to take it a little at a time and - here's the hard part - not to re-buy items. Does Tony have bad allergies or something?

Tony has lung cancer that is in remission. No its not buying stuff that is the problem. Its keeping stuff others had gave him, a lot of it was from several family members that passed away.

@andriaperry Oh my - Well I am certainly happy that Tony is in remission. So true, he needs to take care around lung irritants. Oh - I understand better now about the stuff. I understand how that could be difficult. I'm sure that the family wouldn't have wanted the stuff to become an inconvenience , either... perhaps making sure to keep a few items and getting rid of the rest would help (I'm sure that's been thought of, etc... _ Just a thought though

An hour or to at the time will eventually get the whole thing done. Too bad you coudln't sell the old place to a ton of money to a rennovation show or something. Flip this Old House. lol Maybe Tony's new mask will help him be able to help you out more too.

It sounds like you are really going to town with getting rid of stuff. I found that it is best to do it when it is cooler but if I am in the mood I get it done. I have gotten rid of a lot lately but still want to get rid of more. Coral has been doing a lot too. I haven't checked in to see how much she's got done so far. Good luck with the rest of it.

I can't stand being somewhere where people can't mind their own business.

That is a job I hate - but it must be done occasionally.
