Amazon Shipment Delay until 2018 ?!?!

United States
October 5, 2017 11:47pm CST
I received an email titled "Approval required for your Amazon.com order" and all I skimmed/selected was "I still want this item". I failed to read the small details until I got on my laptop and noticed, the new delayed shipment date was for 2018! To be exact, Friday, February 23, 2018 - Friday, March 16, 2018. You got to be kidding me, right? I ordered a kids storage book rack on Amazon. The seller is a third party, but has 90%+ feedback history and I bought this storage rack with their promotion code on Amazon at check out + I had gift cards I accumulated from Crowdtap, so essentially I didn't pay much. I immediately contacted Amazon and they looked into the problem. They apologized for the inconvenience and gave me the savings coupon I saved for that purchase to be applied to something else of my choice. That was crazy to see such a long delayed shipment and this just shows it's important to read carefully! I will be sure to double check, re-read in the future. Have you ever had an order delayed until the following year?

That sounds really unreasonable. Glad you were able to get things sorted. I have only just started to use Amazon because I had some gift cards and so fast so good although Iam waiting an incredible long time for a couple of cheap necklaces.

I have Amazon Prime (on behalf of my sister who pays for it) so most items I purchase are speedy shipments. I get gift cards also and make some purchases for gifts.

@Jackalyn If you have friends to share membership it'd be useful, but if not I think there is a certain minimum to get free shipping?

@infatuatedbby I have the trial, but am not sure I can afford 7,99 to keep it going.

Wow, that's a long time! I don't shop online much still, so I haven't had that problem . . . but unless it was a seriously great deal, I don't think I'd want to wait that long for an item either!

It was a great deal, but I don't really need it. It was going to be for my niece/nephew anyway. :P

I have not faced any such problem so far. It seems to be an inadvertent mistake by the seller.

@infatuatedbby Did you delay your order at the first instance?
• United States

@dpk262006 No, it was automatic. I suppose since this is the second time, there was a notice.

The seller delayed originally. I purchased in August I believe, then postponed to September and now they delaying it even longer. I think they don't want to honor their sale price as the product is still available on Amazon.

No, not that I recall. I do remember buying a VHS movie on Ebay once. It took forever to get me. I finally checked and it was coming from the UK.

We cannot buy from third party sellers through Amazon, living in a different country, we are only allowed to buy items that are sold directly by Amazon. I always check the delivery dates carefully.

@LadyDuck I see, are there any restrictions for customs? Do they open up the item to ensure ?

@infatuatedbby It's because Amazon is not present in Switzerland, so we have to order from an European department, I order from Italy and France, but the items must pass the inspection of the custom.

My goodness, that's a long delay for shipment. I find it hard to believe it would take a 3rd party vendor five months to process an order. I could build a kids storage book rack by hand from scratch and drive it to you in less than half that time! lol

Exactly right? I doubt so too! I think they didn't want to honor the good deal I got it for! Haha

@moffittjc They probably don't want to look bad by rejecting or canceling on their behalf, so they rather postpone it , in hopes the buyer (me) will cancel!!

@infatuatedbby Sounds about right! Some companies will do anything they can to get out of honoring deals that people try to cash in; hence why there is always fine print to read on those deals. Why can't companies just do the right thing? If it presents a financial hardship on them, then don't offer coupons and deals. It's as simple as that.

I know right !! I think the seller didn't want to honor the price I purchased, but Amazon was nice to accommodate the discount to my account and cancel this because I sure am not waiting for 2018!

@infatuatedbby that sure doesn't sound like good business practice, I would cancel that order, no way I would wait that long.

Sometimes, when I tried to buy stuff before Christmas, the delivery date was basically the next year. But I have never seen a delay this long (kind of 4 months) without any valid reason.

15 Oct 17
Yeah, there was no reason, however I believe the seller didn't want to honor the sale price so instead of canceling and looking bad on their part, they want me to cancel.

I can't say I've ever had an order delayed THAT long. But I know my sister had to wait over six months for an item to ship because it was supposed to ship with something she had pre-ordered...I don't know why they couldn't have just shipped the items separately.

Wow I have never heard of anyone being delayed that long or having a pre-order by Amazon. I'm glad she finally got the item after 6 months +. I don't know why they didn't ship separately either.

They are waiting for the trees to grow so they can cut them down and make them into the furniture you want... that would probably be my dad's explanation. When we ordered a chicken dinner and it took a long time he would tell me they were out in the back chasing the chickens.

Eek! I think the book rack was not real wood, but whichever the case is I think seller wanted to keep delaying because it was a sale product.

wasn't it wrongly typed date? It can't be delay until 2018, just way too long for an item.

No, it was not. Originally it was an earlier date, then pushed and now extended. I believe the seller does not want to honor the sale price and wanted me to cancel the item.
