Appointment scheduled for my shoulder surgery

I saw an Orthopedic surgeon this week and I'm scheduled to have Arthroscopic surgery on my left shoulder to repair the torn rotator cuff on Oct 16. I started physical therapy on my right shoulder yesterday to hopefully get it feeling better before the left shoulder is in a sling. Mixed feelings. I really dread being one-armed for six weeks. How will I style my hair? Ha, I guess if that's my biggest concern, I'll be okay! Thankfully my husband will help, but you know there are just some things you need to do for yourself. But the up side is that once I'm healed (three months or so, but just 6 weeks in a sling), I hope I can sleep again without pain. So, anyway, dreading it, but looking forward to being in less pain. Have any of you guys had shoulder surgery?

Yep, that's pretty much my major goal...be able to style my hair. Of course, to be able to sleep without pain eventually is very cool.

@TiarasOceanView The doctor will give me pain meds, but I have a high tolerance for meds, so I hope they'll help.

Well I will keep you my my prayers and hope it all goes fine. At least it is the left shoulder you'll have your right hand for doing things. Virtual hugs.

Thanks, Sandra! You're right, at least it's not my dominant hand.

I have never had to have this type of surgery but I would imagine that being able to use only one arm would be aggravating. I hope it goes well and heals fast.

Good luck. Therapy is not too bad after surgery. I had it done about 10 years ago.

I have not had shoulder surgery but I do have shoulder pain frequently. I hope your surgery goes well and that you heal without any complications.

@1creekgirl I was recently prescribed a low-dose muscle relaxer that I take three times a day to help with my migraines... I haven't noticed if it helps prevent the migraines yet, but it does help relieve my shoulder pain! A couple hours before it's time to take it again, my shoulder usually starts hurting again, but within an hour of taking it it feels significantly better.

@Srbageldog I might need to try a muscle relaxer. Hope it will help your migraines.

No, but one of my friends did. She was in constant pain and after the surgery, she was like a new person:)

Good luck on it. I have very bad shoulder injuries and nothing helped. The only step would be surgery and I really do not want to go that route. I hope it all works out for you.

Thanks I tried injections and PT, but hopefully this has taken care of it. Do you have anything that helps you with the pain?

@1creekgirl Vicki, I understand what you are saying. I tried so much too and nothing helped that much. I really truly hope it all works out for you with the surgery. I put ben gay on but nothing really helps so I live with it. They do not bother me all the time but when my cat stares at my arm I have to move it so she does not grab for it and it is very uncomfortable. There are times my arm or shoulder gets tired when I am petting her and have to tell her I cannot any longer and it is hard for her to understand. The poor thing has an old one for an owner.
