Look what I found in the bush

Today has been very warm – 30C. It’s the first really warm day we’ve had since we got back from Ireland. Of course it would have to be so warm when we wanted to burn leaves. We had two backpackers helping us and they have done a marvellous job. The girl is Italian but has lived mainly in France. In a fortnight she has a job on a catamaran so she is looking forward to that. The Japanese lad has been in Australia three months. They are both great workers and have made a big difference to the amount of work we would have accomplished. We’ve raked the leaves away from under our boundary fence and from under a patch of trees that are reasonably close to the house. The idea is to make less leaf litter available if there should be a bushfire. Among the leaves I’ve found six golf balls but not all nicely placed like these are. Vince used to practice his golf down in the paddock but from time to time, crows would reach the balls before us and steal them. The balls are too far gone to be used. Our heaps of leaves burnt fiercely and I got a bit too close to one at one stage and now my eyebrows feel strange. I think I’ve singed them.

Surely all the balls that the crows grabbed and hide. We have magpies here, they steal the glass marbles from the kids of the neighbors and time by time I hear the noise of the marbles thrown on our roof. Silly birds!

Jesus Christ! Australian crows play golf and Swiss magpies play marble games on roofs there. What is the world coming to!

I recognize those golf balls! I know I have a terrible slice on my drives, but I didn't think it was so bad that my shots would end up in WA! But that explains now why I could never find my golf balls after my tee shots! But at least now I know that I have good power in my shots, and if I could ever straighten them out I am sure to hit my tee shots right onto the green. I never imagined I had enough power to crush those balls all the way to Australia! I'll have to remember to yell "Fore!" next time! haha

@m_audrey6788 I think you'd better yell fore, five and six if you're hitting them that far!

A couple are still okay to use - and hey, if the balls are a bit 'off' you have a good excuse for bad shots.

@teamfreak16 Vince used to try to practise regularly but it didn't seem to make much difference to his score. Now he mostly just plays twice a week when he can and doesn't bother about practising.

@JudyEv - I haven't played in years. I think all of my shots would be bad right now.

Golf ball, white golf balls. Since are damaged already maybe you can make them as an artistic decor, try to imagine unique things on those balls.

Vince sometimes practises his golf down the paddock and we've seen the crows pick up the balls. They possibly think they are eggs.

They are too weathered and worn to be any good so I guess I'll have to chuck them out eventually. Maybe the crows will steal them again before I bring them in.

They were wonderful. We also cut a tree off a fence and sawed it into chunks. Vince and the guy loaded it on the trailer and Gacha always took any really big piece off Vince and loaded it himself. And the girl never stopped all day. At one point we wanted them to stop raking so the fire wouldn't get too big but the girl was looking for something else to do so in the end Vince carted them off to have lunch while I kept an eye on the fires. They were just so willing. Their parents should be proud of them.

Crows! I've read 'cows'! I was really surprised because I had never heard that cows stole things.

They can't do much to the balls except steal them. They would have thought they were eggs. At least that's my reckoning.

How interesting. My son likes to golf and when he practices, he hits them into our woods. He rescues some but I am sure if we were to clear out the entire woods,, we would find many that he lost.

Vince used to lose a lot but as he has improved, he's lost less and less. But then the crows started pinching them.

Haha. Hopefully they'll have different numbers on them. I wonder how long before they grow to full size. We could play marbles with them while we're waiting for them to grow.

They look like eggs but have dimples on them - and a couple have numbers. In Ireland we put a golf-ball in a chicken nest to encourage the hens to lay there.
