No-one's stealing this!

In Australia, building sites are a popular target for thieves and it seems the same might be true of Ireland. We were in a small town where there was some major construction work going on, It was a weekend and the area was closed off and looked quite secure. However it seemed extra security was needed for the generator and it had been hoisted high in the air. Do you go to extremes to hide certain things? I know @Corbin5 (Deborah Mitchell) has hidden her Halloween sweets under the spare bed – and that’s just to protect them from her husband!

I can understand the need for extra security but that particular example looks more like a work hazard than an extra security measure. That is just an accident waiting to happen.

@JudyEv I could understand companies or homes putting up security cameras or getting additional guards or even a trained guard dog to beef up security but I won't go as far as to hang a generator from a crane.

@allen0187 I guess the crane was onsite anyway. It wouldn't have been brought in specifically to hang the crane on. And more and more homes seem to be getting CCTV.

I've heard of new houses losing all their appliances. It's pretty bad when that happens.

Recently I have taken to locking my car even in my driveway. Thieves around here like to break into cars.

@JudyEv I think they like to have lots of options since some cars are locked and some have nothing worth stealing in them, like mine. I never leave my electronics in the car.

@BelleStarr We saw many signs warning people not to leave valuables in their cars.

We don't lock the cars but we are pretty isolated here. Of course, an isolated property is probably quite attractive to thieves.

Let's hope it does not fall on the ground and breaks, generators cost a lot of money.

That same thing is done to protect equipment here too. It seems that I hide things from myself sometimes, since I have so much trouble finding them.

I put things in 'safe' places and the places must be very safe as sometimes the items are never seen again!

That is going a bit extreme, but if it's the only way to make certain the generator was still there when work resumed, then that's what you need to do. I have no need to go to extremes anymore as I live alone in a secure building.

We stayed with a friend last night and she lives in a secure building too. She has great piece of mind knowing the building is so secure.

Well, this would be hard to steal with it hoisted that high up. It is always Good to protect everything from theft any way you can. I just need to work on finding better places to hide $$ without my husband knowing about it, so that I have a little extra spending $$ if I want to go out for the day somewhere.

I kept some cash under the bottom drawer of a chest of drawers - not so much hiding it but so I'd have a few dollars if I needed it.

That's very true. And although we're quite isolated, there is a bush road that goes behind the property in full view of the house.

Its a pity such extremes have to be taken in the world today .... I usually just take normal steps for security ...

Generators are so expensive, and I don't blame the owner for hoisting it high in the air. We store ours in our garage.

The sad thing is, if somebody really wants that thing badly enough, they'll still find a way to get it.

Oh my goodness, that is insane. We don't normally have theives around here. Just the other day some people stopped by to work on an RV that we are renting our land for them to park it on and they left all their tools and such in the middle of my yard and nothing was touched.

I have seen construction sites like this in the United States where they put expensive things in the air like this. A sad world when things like this have to be done to keep them safe.

Thieves are quick to notice if a building is left unoccupied. Here our insurance is invalid if the house is left empty for more than a few weeks.
