Window Cleaners on the Isle of Man (Marsha M here is the explanation to my reply on your post.)

Years ago I attended a writing group. I was the only member who was not partially sighted, but that is by the way. My story is about the time we were given a challenge to get published. I have told my story about how for much of my childhood I thought God was the window cleaner in another post on Mylot and it is the beginning of my book I am about to publish. However, then, it was something I had almost forgotten. I wrote the story and sent it to the American Window Cleaners Journal. They published it and that is where the fun began. I kept getting emails. They were all from male window cleaners and all of them assumed I too, was a man. Even more odd was that they came from the Isle of Man from different people and they were all Jehovah's Witnesses. Eventually, I asked someone why. Apparently there ARE a lot of people who are male window cleaners who are also witnesses living on the Isle of Man. This is something I would never have known had I not sent a story to the American Window Cleaners journal. And it is also very strange because of course, the Isle of Man is not in the US. Anyway, that was the first time my name ever appeared in print.

This is weird, very surprising. I wonder if it was the same man who wrote under several identities.

It wasn't. Apparently it is a kind of thing there.

@MarshaMusselman I was in the Isle of Man last August, but have no idea if I met any of those people. If you encounter a Jehovah's Witness you will not be aware whether they are window cleaners, similarly if you see a window cleaner there is no way of knowing whether they are a Jehovah's Witness.

@Jackalyn I wonder if Barry has ever run into them before, either the window cleaners or Jehovah's Witness that is. He's been to the Isle of Man on some of his holidays in the past. @Asylum

Too bad you didn't tag this post and the other one you wrote as that would make it very easy for me to find it. Now, your comment makes a little more sense. More sense regarding why you would say such a thing, but not more sense regarding why they are living there. I thought Jehovah's Witnesses were mainly a USA thing, but maybe I'm wrong on that? I am a window cleaner, but I'm not a Jehovah's Witness.

Oh gosh, yes. I should have tagged the post! I am not good at stuff like that. I still don't understand why they live there, but it could just be a family business grew or something like that. I also am not sure why they used the AMERICAN window cleaners journal. I think it may have been this one. If you are not a window cleaner you do not imagine that window cleaners would also need a magazine! I guess not many window cleaners get mistaken for God like our family one did either! There are Jehovah's Witnesses in the UK and they are a bit of a nuisance with their door knocking. I had some friends who were involved and they HATED having to do the door knocking but still did it. For some reason they informed me I was part of the 144000 or something. All quite strange.

@Jackalyn I'm sure they make magazines for just about anything. I doubt that we'd ever check out any magazine though, unless I decided I wanted to write articles for it or something. I peeked at the online version and may bookmark it for the future. They have a marketplace for those wanting to either buy or sell a window business, which we may be interested in down the road. Thanks for the link.

@MarshaMusselman I guess that Magazine did me another favour. Maybe I will offer them an article. I was too ill to do it, but the next project at the writing group was to pitch them a paid article. They agreed.
