There are only five mountains left to climb in this list of my favorite songs that have the word "hill" or "mountain" in the title. I might as well warn you right now, if you don't like country music (cough-cough-Lori): enjoy this one, because this is the last rock song on the "mountain" list. And here it is! #5: Blue Mountaintop - E-I-E-I-O And you'll probably say -- and I will concur -- that this isn't all that rock. But dang, it's great. This entire album is great. And you've never heard of this band. Hailing from Milwaukee (probably explains the Old MacDonald and his farm band name), E-I-E-I-O made a superb, spectacular, unbelievable record -- 1986's Land Of Opportunity -- then got signed to a bigger label, made a lesser album, and in the words of Hee Haw pffft! they were gone. But this album is one of my favorites from the 80s, period. There is quite a bit of music on this album that could get you in trouble if you're listening to it and driving past a cop at the wrong speed, if you catch my drift. This song isn't one of those. No, this song pretty much explains how I feel after every petty fight between our supposed adult elected officials over something, or how I feel after another teacher or minister is caught molesting children, or how I feel after three days of wall-to-wall coverage of the latest mass shooting. "I've had enough of people and this sick society, living in the city don't do anything for me," this song proclaims. Not grammatically correct, but boy, is it accurate. E-I-E-I-O is still active on Facebook, and apparently they do the odd show together every now and then. At least they got together and made this fabulous album and this fabulous song. I think Land of Opportunity is one of the most underrated albums of the 1980s. Man, that thing is dynamite from start to finish.
