Printers On Motorcycles? Who knew? (new law means more tickets)

I got a traffic ticket or two many years ago as a teen and young adult driver. The officer who stopped me was polite enough, but still wrote a ticket, giving me an sort of legible carbon copy telling me what my fine was. We now have a new law in Oregon. It was already illegal to text or call on a cell phone while driving; now it is illegal to even hold or touch a cell phone at all. Hands-free use is still permitted. I like the new law. Distracted drivers are a menace. But, back to the point. Our morning paper had a photo of an officer printing a ticket with a printer on the back of his motorcycle. That was a surprise to me! I had no idea that was even possible, but then tech-wise, I am a fossil. I wonder if they have as much trouble keeping their printers working as we do? We have three and none are working currently.

I agree. Good law that should be the law of the land. Not a surprise to have printers in this day and age but you make a funny point. Will an officer come back and say printer's down, I'll let you off with a warning.

I can just see the guy kicking the wheel of his motorcycle and stamping his boot because the printer is down.

This is news to me, but I suppose that the introduction of such a system was inevitable.

I suppose so, but a mobile printer surprised me.

@JamesHxstatic I see nothing technologically difficult about that. Motor cycles have batteries, so power would not be a problem.

@Asylum I suppose so. That tech stuff is not my strong suit.

That's interesting about the techie capabilities that the cops have now. I wonder if they go after folks who have dogs on their laps as they drive?

@JamesHxstatic I think that having a dog on the driver's lap is as dangerous as talking on the phone.

@sallypup I suspect that it is.

Hmmm, not sure, but that would affect a lot of people. Maybe the dog could use the phone?

They passed the same law in Washington. No hand held devices at all while driving. I haven't seen a printer on the back of a motorcycle yet.

Yes, that was real surprise, very high tech.

@JamesHxstatic It doesn't really surprises me with so many things going high tech.

I wonder if the officers have to try to change the ink cartridge on the side of the road.

Maybe they take a break at the garage for that.

That is something new. We do not have that here in Jerusalem. I wonder when they got those. People here drive on bikes even while talking on the phone and they do not receive tickets. It makes me sick when there is a law it should be followed and not ignored and people talking on their phones while driving should be made an example of.

I've never seen or heard of police having printers but it doesn't surprise me.

We have the same laws, and I agree that those holding a phone are a menace. I hope if I ever get stopped by a motorcycle policeman, that his ticket jams and he runs out of ink! I have a sneaky feeling that there is always an alternative, however.

Love the photo! I had not idea that could be done either. We are trying to give away a perfectly good printer but there have been no takers so far.
