Violent Storm Knocked Out Internet and Cable

I was one of the lucky ones in my town, I only lost my cable and Internet from the violent storm we experienced on Sunday into Monday. The wind was so strong it was shaking my winds and it was hard to sleep. I had no cable and Internet when I woke up Monday morning but our lights were still on. We tried to go out to our swim class but after trying 3 different roads, we turned around and came back home, all of them were blocked either by trees or downed lines. Yesterday afternoon we found a route out but tried to come home a different way and could not get through. Our town looks like a war zone. Why I still have power I have no idea but I am grateful. My friend who lives about a mile away has no power and my daughter's whole town is out. Both of them have generators as do we. So I just got it back 10 minutes ago and I decided I would pop on quickly and explain why I was not around yesterday and tell everyone that I will be catching up with all the comments as soon as I can. The photo is one of the many trees that are down near us.

I saw that your part of the US got hit badly by that storm. They were even showing a house floating down the river

I have never seen anything like it that wasn't a hurricane, it was a very strong storm and the amount of rain was phenomenal.

I have read that there was a warning from some States, it seems that the storm was very bad, something like a hurricane, very bad.

So glad you are safe and okay. It was a nasty storm. We were fortunate not to have any downed trees or lose power. The electric company has been wonderful all summer and fall trimming and removing trees on all the trees that pose a threat in our town. We just hired a tree removal company to take down five Mothers here. So happy they didn't fall on our home! The rain we needed. We had our lawn irrigated and seeded. My husband was getting darn tired of moving hoses and sprinklers around.

We need to get our tree man to do some removals for us, there are some other limbs that look rather precarious.

I'm glad you're safe. I hope your daughter's power was restored quickly, and they get those trees and power lines taken care of in a hurry so people can get where they need to go. I'm sorry the storm kept you from your class.

Our back fence fell over a few days ago, when strong wind suddenly hit us for a whole day. Glad that our internet was not affected however.

@YrNemo Yes we realize that now, we had no idea that huge branch had come down, it is hidden from our sight in the house.

After we looked at our far backyard, there are a couple of huge limbs down and they just missed our shed.

Yes thank you, though we lost our power for an hour 15 minutes tonight, it was quite annoying given that it is Halloween and the kids had not finished trick or treating.

Luckily the storm itself happened overnight so we didn't have to stay in because of it except that the roads were blocked.

A few large branches down and the grandsons came over Saturday with a truck and chain saw and cut the wood and took it to the dump.

It took as much as three days for some residents in our town to get their power back but of course, we have a much better infrastructure than Puerto Rico.

@BelleStarr - I hope they basically rebuild a much better and stronger infrastructure for Puerto Rico so it can withstand future storms and give people a safer source of electricity. I'm surprised they aren't distributing little solar units to people, like they have in Africa, so at least people could have a little light at night. It is ridiculous that everyone is in the dark.

It was really scary but you have other things like mudslides and the terrible fires so I guess there really is no place that is weather trouble free.
