Happy November 1st!

Path through the woods (my photo)

I assume that we all survived Halloween and are feeling happy or anxious as we launch this new month and race toward the holiday season.I am sure many have made detailed plans for celebrations and just as many are "winging it." It is a quiet day here near Ayers Lake. I have put off my fitness walk until it warms up a bit, but should get moving now that it is almost 40 degrees. (More coffee please!) It is a ping pong day too so will exercise mind and body for about two hours this afternoon. Any big plans in your life for today? How about those onrushing holidays? Happy? Anxious? Maybe just a day at a time? Have a great November 1 in any case!

We had a nice Halloween dinner, quiet at home. Today is a holiday and it was a good occasion to rest a bit and have a nice walk searching for hazelnuts in the woods.

It is interesting that Oregon grows more hazelnuts than any where except Turkey. Turkey had such a big crop that prices are down this year. I eat some roasted nuts of various kinds each day.

@JamesHxstatic Turkey is a great hazelnuts producer, but the quality of those that grow in the Italian region of Piedmont are a lot better, bigger and tastier. The wild ones I picked up are small, but very good.

I am taking it one day at a time. I am very happy that the hurricane season will be over at the end of this month and we haven't had a bad one in my country. I hope those who suffered will get back on track soon.

It is good that you were not subject to a big storm this year. Puerto Rico is still reeling I know.

I have too many books on hand at home to make it to the library, but did errands and played ping pong for two hours.

I had plans for today but my body had other ideas, so I am doing very little. I have to wash dishes and should make a phone call and that's about it. I am ready for the winter holidays! I never make detailed plans but at least I can start planning in earnest now.

We have had some nice sunny days up until now, but the rain was heavy today. I see that your New Year Celebration will be on February 16th in 2018.

Thanksgiving is more or less another day for us. Eat and eat! I'm muddling through what is going on with my brother but am fine otherwise.

I'm off to buy vegie seedlings later. I want to grow pumpkins (butternut squash) again as they are easy to grow and they keep well. Nothing much else planned.

So butternut squash is pumpkin in Australia? Are there pumpkins too? Do you have acorn or spaghetti squash there?

No plans to make for the holidays here. As we just make a simple Thanksgiving dinner for the three of us, and my uncle and our family friend. Then put up the Christmas that night. For Christmas we just open what gifts we have in the morning then make roast beef or lasagna for dinner. nothing big, nothing fancy, no going out. but am excited for both holidays, and to get the year over with.

Those meals are always difficult for us. My daughter is a vegetarian and that requires two meals or going out.

@JamesHxstatic that stinks, but as a picky eater, i understand. We have always had simple dinner, same things every year.

My wife and I were just talking about how time is fleeting. I have read that after 30, your metabolism changes and time goes by faster and faster. At my age it is the jet age.

I survived Halloween but we lost to the office competition. Our theme was Slenderman with floating voodoo dolls. I guess the other teams have really thought about their decorations. Now off to Christmas!
