Election Day in New Jersey

The kind of voting booth used in NJ. No direct computer access. Cartridge stores votes.

Just a short post here. I have to get to bed because I need to be up and at the fire house by 5:15 to start setting up for 6:00 am opening of the polls. It's going to be a long day! I only do it twice a year, but sometimes I just don't feel up to doing it - so early and such a long day and no car to leave for lunch or anything. So I'll be taking the rest of my deli ham, some crackers, a yogurt, some tea bags and sweetener and my half of a whiskey bacon cheeseburger I have left from Applebee's (delicious!! I'd like another one.) That should get me through the day. But, since the polls don't close until 8pm, it really is a very long day. This girl's gonna be TIRED!

The election results were great if you were a Democrat. I'm happy with the results.

I am as well, but I'm also glad people came out to vote. Off years are never well-attended, but we had more people than we expected. It was busy all day and several were there before we opened at 6am!!

At least you can be proud to have done your duty. Hope it all goes well and perhaps you will even enjoy it.

There are times when it is boring and other times when it is truly enjoyable. The worst part is packing up and turning in all the paperwork at the end. Yet, they finally have that organized to the point where it went quickly. I won't complain.

I am working as a vote collector tomorrow..so I don't have to be at the polls until they closing.

So, do you pick up the vote tallies at the end? Or do you pick up the actual ballots or computer records? We take our own computer cartridges to turn in and then separately turn in the materials (including sign-in sheets). Others do show up to take the total vote tallies (how many votes received on a machine), but the actual candidate counts are on the computer cartridge. We run tapes of those and then turn in the cartridge at the designated HQ.
