Making the grocery shopping list

I usually sit down on Thursday or Friday evening and make my shopping list. That's what I'm doing tonight. I often do this with a couple of my cookbooks to help me meal plan. I'll flip through them and select a few recipes to try during the following week. Then I know what things to add to the list along with the usual suspects (fresh vegetables, eggs, paper towels, dishwasher detergent, etc.) One thing I absolutely AM NOT buying tomorrow is meat! My freezer is so packed that I can barely close it. Even my basement freezer is full. I DO NOT need any form of protein! I don't care what kind of good deal I find, I need to just walk on by. The 4 recipes that I picked out for next week are all vegetable ones. They are for spaghetti squash, broccolini, green beans, and butternut squash. I love finding new ways to prepare veggies that are allowed in my nutritional plan. When do you do your grocery shopping? Do you make a list?

I totally make a list and then usually use it as a guide. :) We just got some new sales starting tomorrow, so usually the on sale/great deals is what directs the meal planning. Plus my kids all pick out a meal they will each make during the week. So its a win-win for me. :) They love pintrest!

That's great that they cook for you. My husband used to cook for me but it has been years since he has done that.

@NJChicaa They love it. I help with all the cutting/ putting on the stove or in the oven and off since they are five and six. They enjoy the picking out the foods, setting the table, picking colors, etc. It also makes them eating an easy battle to win since they are happy to eat what they chose.

I usually do my groceries on the weekend but I don't really plan it based on the week's meal plan. I think that's a very organized way to do it though.

@NJChicaa That's true. Helps to avoid impulse buying.

It helps to save money because otherwise I'd just be randomly throwing things in the cart.

Broccolini! This sounds good. I was just looking at recipes online to make this week.

I always have a list. I usually go once a week but the day does not matter.

It used to be Sat morning but somehow it morphed to Fri afternoon after work if I'm not too tired. Not sure why.

I pretty much know in my head what I need.

If I tried that, I'd forget half of what I needed and impulse buy a bunch of stuff I didn't need.

We usually make up a grocery shopping list, all week long. It has all the things we are either out of or running low on something. Friday or Saturday is our shopping day, for all these items.

@kobesbuddy I do too. Cooking from scratch requires a lot of ingredients.

@NJChicaa As the week passes, we end up with a pretty long list.
