Two hours to go to the drive-in and a smelly aftermath

I’ve just read and responded to @much2say’s post about travelling a long way more or less just to buy a Japanese cheesecake. You can catch up here: http://www.mylot.com/post/3125745/new-post-but-old-news-rolling-eyes.
I was reminded of the time we lived in Ravensthorpe, quite an isolated small country town. It was a good two hours’ drive to the nearest reasonably sized town with nothing in between.
We were young marrieds with a small child who was a good traveller so one Saturday we decided to make the trip to Esperance (Western Australia) to go to the drive-in. We had a bottle and a spare for the baby but somehow some of it spilt in the back seat. We had cloth nappies in those days and used one to wipe up the spill. We then shoved the milky nappy under the seat out of the way.
However we forgot to remove the nappy when we got home and several days later there was a dreadful smell in the car. The smell of sour milk is pretty awful and the car took a few days to lose the stench.
The photo is of the same child some years later when we have moved to Esperance.

For my honeymoon with my wife, we went on a 7-day cruise to the Caribbean islands. In one of the ports of call we visited a rum distillery, and we purchase a bunch of bottles of spiced rum to bring back to the US to give to family and friends. When we returned from the cruise, we loaded our luggage into the trunk of my wife's car, including the rum, and left to drive home. At some point we must have taken a turn too sharply, or hit a bump or something, because when we got home the entire car smelled like spiced rum. When we opened the trunk, all the bottles we had purchase were broken, and the rum spill all over the trunk of the car. It probably took more than a year to get the smell of rum out of the car! Fortunately, it was a good smell, but still, it was pretty overpowering considering how much rum spilled in the car! lol

@moffittjc I hope you were not pulled over for by the police for any reason while that smell was present.

@JamesHxstatic That was my biggest fear getting home from the cruise that day!

A foul smell in the car is the worst.

@JudyEv I knew some people who were pranked with Limburger cheese on their car's manifold when they got married. It smelled months later.

@JamesHxstatic Some 'newly married' pranks aren't really very funny at all .

Oh boy, I can imagine how smelly that was! Did it take long to figure out what the smell was?

Oh I'm sure he's grown now. ha ha, that was really an experienced. We have 5 children and those kids we have good memories of replacing their diapers.

Wow, 2 hours is a real long drive to the drive in! But oh no about the milky nappy . . . I know that sour smell and I don't know why it's not easy to get that smell out. What an adorable photo of your son . . . I know that "thing" he is sitting on . . . these days at the park they formed like dinosaurs, animals, or cars! Thanks for the mention .

What a precious photo, your child is adorable!:) I've had smelly things, hidden somewhere for a long time. Have you ever discovered a rotten potato, inside a closed cupboard? It's a terrible smell, as bad as spoiled milk! LOL

Rotten potatoes are awful. I harvested potatoes once, standing on the back of a machine, and occasionally there would be a rotten one thrown up and you'd grab it like the others and your fingers would sink into this awful goo. It used to make me retch.

Only a few days I think. It was a long time ago. Once we removed the nappy and I washed out the floor the smell didn't stay long.
