How did you propose? Or were you proposed to?

As in marraige. The other day I was talking to two of my coworkers who both recently bought engagement rings for their partners and plan on proposing. As a singleton who has never been proposed to, I was interested in hearing their stories and plans. The first girl, about my age is proposing to her longtime girlfriend this weekend. Says she spent over 7k on the ring. She has the whole evening planned out as a surprise. First they are going on a horse-carraige ride around downtown Minneapolis, then being dropped off at a fancy restaurant, and then have a nice suite at a fancy hotel downtown. The other one who has bought his ring for his girlfriend has no plan. In fact, he is convinced he is going to "wing it". He says they typically spend most of their time on the couch watching tv so this is where he might do it. Ha. But whatever works I guess. Did you have a romantic proposal? The married folks care to share their stories?

I dont think one has to really plan.. as it doesnt have to be fancy/ exspensive / SO romantic. I mean, growing up i always thought they had to be that way, but when i got older, i realized its just a question.. as most talk about marriage often, so for them it's not even a surprise when it happens and the asker already knows the answer before asking.

That is true. I do like a little bit of theatrics, enough to make it memorable. But youre right - it doesnt have to be crazy expensive. Just special, I think

Ours was an arranged marriage so I didn't propose my wife. We are happily married for 13 years.

Oh great to hear! Do your parents arrange it or how does that work?

I was the one proposed too, and we went and picked out a Wedding ring set together after this, and then the way we told his Dad we were getting married, is by showing off the ring.

My husband and I were laying in bed, talking and laughing together. He rolled over with the ring after getting it from under his pillow and asked if I would marry him. =)

The first time ( I say first as we redid our vows) he said I love you and want to spend my life with you, how about it? LOL! When he asked we were only 14 and 16. Ended up getting married 2 years later. The 2nd time my then best friend was getting married again and he without me knowing asked if we could redo our vows with them. They said yes, she was having a big fancy wedding. Anyways we all went out to dinner one night at our favorite restaurant. Next thing I knew he was on his knee asking me to remarry him. I of course said yes!! I had no clue how I would have to get dressed up and such! LOL!

The first story sounds so romantic but $7000 is way to much money to spend on a ring in my opinion. My late husband propsed me on Christmas morning. He hid the box with the ring in the tree and I couldn't find what he bought me and I started getting annoyed and made him get it out and give it to me lol.

My husband just said, he wants us to be married already. Of course, I readily said yes. Thus, he and her parents went to our house and formally told my parents about it. They brought with them foods we all partook of. This practice is called "pamanhikan" here.

My husband and I were married 25 years, and I believe we decided to get married at the same time, so I missed the down on one knee ceremony.
