The American proverb said that the best things in life are free but what they are is left to the individual to decide. The ones you mention are all good.
What about: sunshine, rain, snow, and air? They are very important and still free!

@1hopefulman absolutely, they are all essential (well, not sure about snow) , but it is pretty, and yes, free

i think it applies. I take the saying to mean the good things to value / cherish are free: love, hugs, kissing, holding hands, smiles. etc.
its not about material goods. If having an item is what makes a person's existence meaningful, they likely need new priorities.

The ones you mention are free and so valuable that we can't even put a price on them.
I was also thinking about sunshine, rain, air, sunrises, sunsets and rainbows.

There you go! I'm just looking out my window and there is a glorious sunset and I'm getting one every day but this one is spectacular. Thank you Heavenly Father!

@1hopefulman just yesterday I was thinking we were going to have another gray day and then I looked out the window. This is the sunrise we had yesterday morning.

Hm. That is a tough one. Air is free and we need it to live. Water in most places is free, that's needed too. Almost everything costs. Shelter, food, heat, power... all cost.
Though other things like love, hugs, friendship... those things are free....

Let's not forget the sunshine and the rain as they are free. I would imagine if one has a farm, even much of the food might be free as one can save seeds to replant.

True, we did not get a bill when we were born and so life is free.

Everything that our loving Creator has given us, is free, but this time we have to pay for food and some place to live and clothes.. Good friends and love are also free, and hugs, of course..

@1hopefulman Okay, the air we breathe is polluted, causes physical problems - costly medical bills.
The water is polluted - so need to buy bottled water - not expensive - but not free.
About the only thing I can think of that's still free is opinions. And everyone has those in abundance.

In my apartment building, people are always putting things out and I got a few pieces of furniture for free including my desk that has my computer.

Felix, that is great. People put things out here too and I have found things I brought home could use too. That is fun.

I don't think it's necessarily true I think you appreciate more stuff when you have to work for it. Which is frankly something like the younger generation of our time it doesn't really do anymore.

But do we really work for the best things in life? What do you consider to be the best things?

Of course, the air I breathe, nature, senses, unconditional love - these are all the best things I have in life that I've never had to pay for.

That's so true! So there are many good things that even in these days are still free. Many cities have beautiful parks that we can visit and enjoy .

@JudyEv And the grass and trees and other greenery produce oxygen and clean the air. The earth is so beautiful but some people are so destructive. If we would cooperate, many other things would be free, even food and fuel.

Yes! The air I breathe, the beautiful flowers I see, the smile of the people around me, love, my family. The best things for me are the simple things in life that makes me happy and they are free.

So when some people say that nothing is free, they are so wrong, as your list shows.

Yes, spending time with loved ones is usually free unless you take them shopping then it can be expensive.
