Well obviously people are trying to get into the Christmas spirit. And there are moments when I am in a good spirit but not long. Thanks Valerie for this lovely card. in my photo. Folks if you want one from me please pm me with address because time is of the essence We don't have any children in the house this year. but still my daughter went out and bought a tree this morning. Probably not to put me in the spirit because I just worry about the fact I have not much money to buy everyone in my family something. and I always feel bad when they get me things and I have nothing to gift. I think it was mostly (the tree) to appease her bf. that is just an adult child a lot of times. they were in there putting it up and one section of lights did not work. its one of those white ones with lights built in/on it. He had a fit and just stormed off in the room. So do you get Christmas spirit or Christmas depression or just off and on like myself?

@bunnybon7 You have plenty of reasons for it not being the same, if you had your healthy the lack of money would be less of an issue, you could make homemade gifts etc. Just keep the reason for the season in mind and maybe that will help. I always watch A Chrstmas Carol to get in the mood.

They get you things because they love you, not to receive something in return! and your family would probably be really upset to think you were worrying about it! Put up your tree and enjoy the spirit...it's not about how much you spend..it's about the people you spend time with!!

I have been growing in my walk with God so the financial things aren't getting me down like they used to. I know how much God loves me and will provide for my family. I'm very much in the spirit because it's not about gifts, it's about the most AMAZING gift of all and that is Jesus!

i agree and wish others would keep that in mind. children should be the ones we are mostly concerned with having something under the tree. its nice for adults to just appreciate the celebration of our lord and good food and cards to show we are glad for the love we have for what we are to each other and Jesus.

@LovingMyBabies mine used to be that way too. since they grew up though now its like they think everyone should get tons of things. from everyone. plus i have the added pain of missing so many no longer here. that just makes it harder. this day and age i don't know what happened

@bunnybon7 We have raised ours with the knowledge of Jesus and what the day is actually for. They have also been raised to be grateful for anything they get-even if it's only one thing. Thank God they are super grateful kids because some years it's only been a gift or two from Dollar Tree and they were still so happy!

We stopped exchanging gifts as we are all adults in the house. Most of the times I feel a bit depressed during the holidays.

thats how it should be with adults not exchanging. but we should just celebrate. it would be a lot easier on everyone and we would not get so depressed.

@bunnybon7 Every year it was the usual pain to go around finding something to buy to offer as a gift. Two years ago we decided to stop the stress and only celebrate.

It can be easy to slip into Christmas depression when you don't have a lot of money to spend on gifts, or if you do not have family or cannot be with family for the holiday. I learned a long time ago not to focus on the commercialism of the holiday, but to focus on what really matters. I have learned to take joy in the little things, such as the beauty of the lights and decorations on the Christmas tree. The kids and I love to drive around and look at Christmas lights. We try to make the holiday joyful as much as we can.

@moffittjc we all do our best. some realize it when they have kids of their own, some never do. problem being we are not given a manual and even if we were it seems not everything works with them all.

@bunnybon7 I try to be the best father I can, but I'm human and I still mess up from time to time. But my kids know that I do try my hardest, and no matter what I love them.

I try to get into the Christmas spirit. It seems harder as my children grow up, though. I'm sure they only say believe in Santa to appease me my boys are 17 and 12). This year, I've had a few issues over the past few months and it's overwhelmed me so I'm struggling to get into the spirit. Then, there is the fact that I'm missing my step-daughters and granddaughters. If we could see my granddaughters over Christmas, then I would have a reason to get into the spirit! I really hope I cheer myself up so I am not a grumpy grouch at Christmas!

yes. it is just so hard when you are mostly alone. 2 people live here with me. my daughter and her bf but most of the time they are in their room or gone some where or outside smoking. makes it seem like i am usually, mostly alone

Christmas isn't so much about giving and I'm sure those who do buy you a gift know your circumstances and don't expect a return gift. It's nice to have a tree and hope it brings some joy into the house

not sure how much my family understands about that. i get one large amount once a month of which an awful lot goes for medical , rent, food, etc. they don't seem to take into account, i have to make sure it lasts the whole month not just a week like them

We don't go anywhere for Christmas and don't go to parties etc so its mostly just a day to eat a nice meal. I do try to put up a few things though I'm not bothering with a tree this year. Maybe I'll watch Charlie Brown's Christmas and see if that makes it more festive here.

I have many things to be sad about; family so spread out and Christmas is not what it used to be. So, I think of what I like. Mainly, I like the lights. I enjoy all the lights people put up as much as I can. I enjoy our scrawny Christmas tree with the lights. No one will be coming to visit, so the tree only has lights - no decorations. Every morning, I enjoy my coffee while sitting by the lit tree. I enjoy the letters and calls I get from family spread so far. And I make a point to be lively and festive with the family I do get to see. Do you know anyone who would enjoy a call from you this time of year? My parents had a retired teacher friend. All year, he phoned every retired teacher, in that district, on their birthday. As they all got older, I am sure that is the only call some people received on their birthday. A simple kindness, he could do from home. What else can be done without money? Most of us do not need gifts.
