Hands down, musically, Manchester, England, is my favorite city. I can honestly say that I've never heard a Manchester band that I haven't liked. So, I am counting down my favorite Manchester groups. We are at #9: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band, The Hollies. And why shouldn't The Hollies be in the Hall of Fame? Check this out: in the 1960's, The Hollies spent a total of 231 weeks on the UK Singles chart, which placed them 9th highest for the decade. For five decades, at least one of 60 singles or EP's, or 26 albums, was on a chart somewhere in the world. The group had over 30 charting singles in the UK, with a total of 22 reaching the Billboard Hot 100. And despite some roster turnover, The Hollies have never broken up or taken a hiatus. They still record and tour to this day. I've linked to a video of the band performing their 1966 hit, "Bus Stop," which was their first major US hit (#5 on the Hot 100.) It's also my favorite by them. (Info verified by Wikipedia)

Haven't heard this song but I know quite a few by the Hollies. Just love this band. This is one of my favorite songs.
Graham Nash played an important role in the early history of the Hollies, but after his departure in December 1968, the group achieved some of its greatest s...

I love this song, and have it on my list to use for MyLot. The part I love the most is the intro--normally I'm not into intros that much, but this one is so unique. I do wish it was longer, but the rest of the song is good also.

I so love English music in general. Must be that long history they have there, it's in the people's dna there. Really cool Beatles style song.

I could probably do 100 favorite British bands, from the "alternative" era, and have leftovers.

I remember hearing an Anne Murray song called "Son of a Rotten Gambler" that I loved as a kid. I get older, and lo and behold, the Hollies recorded it first! Excellent choice.

@teamfreak16 -- that was written by Chip Taylor (Jon Voight's brother), who also wrote "Angel of the Morning."

Amazing that they've never broken up or anything. They're like The Stones in a way.

Love the group and that song! It is a song that when I heard it, I kept singing over and over for many years. Still amazing even after all these years.

I saw them live just a couple of years ago and they were great. Only a couple of them date back to the early sixties and they've had a number of lead singers, but the latest one had a good voice and they did lots of the old hits, including Bus Stop. Strange lyrics but it sounds fab. The Air That I Breathe is my favourite.

Great song! Also liked "On a Carousel." Founders Alan Clarke and Graham Nash were a dynamic duo in establishing the group's success.

@dgobucks226 - It was. New owners came in and cleaned house, brought in cheaper air talent. I panicked and joined the Army. Lost interest while I was in.
