Favorite "Real People" Songs #5 - "Buddy Holly"

I had to take a day off from this one, but here we are at #5 in my Favorite "Real People" Songs series, which is songs with real people in the title: "Buddy Holly" by Weezer.
Produced by The Cars' Ric Ocasek, gold record "Buddy Holly" was the second single from Weezer's 1994 self-titled debut album (also known as "The Blue Album.) The single was released on what would have been Holly's 58th birthday.
Oddly, Weezer leader Rivers Cuomo considered the song "cheesy" and didn't necessarily want to include it on the album, but relented after encouragement from Ocasek.
Ocasek's persistence paid off: "Buddy Holly" hit four different Billboard charts: #2 Modern Rock Tracks, #17 Top 40 Mainstream, #18 Hot 100 Airplay, and #34 Mainstream Rock Tracks. Additionally, the song charted in six other countries, including #6 in Canada.
I've linked to the classic, Spike Jonez-directed video, set in Arnold's Drive In on the set of Happy Days. It's one of the most fun videos I've ever seen.

This is one of my favorite songs by Weezer. Really good choice. I've never seen the video before, and thought it was really cool how Arnold introduced them and how it paused for a commercial.

Yeah, that was funny. I read that Anson Williams got bent out of shape because they showed Potsie in the video, and had to be talked into being cool with it.
