When Police use deadly force - at what point does self-defense become murder?

A man is seen running away He is running away from an officer of the law, a policeman. He has his back against the police officer, trying to get away from him. The policeman points directly his gun at the running man and has only a few seconds to react. Was this officer's life in danger? Or was it all in the HEAT OF THE MOMENT?
Michael Slager, the former South Carolina police officer who shot and killed Walter Scott, was sentenced Thursday to 20 years in federal prison, a decision the Scott family said gave it a "sense of justice."

In our country most of us are no less scared of cops than criminals. This should change only then we have right to say we are democracy.

I hope this happens for you. Democracy is the only system that is actually fair for all persons in general.

I have to agree where to draw the line. But they view it as they are a criminal and are lower citizens.

I am a staunch supporter of the police but like every profession, there are a few bad apples and this was one of them. I saw the tape and could not believe my eyes! I could not understand how in the world he could justify that shooting and I'm glad that justice has been served. I just wish the Scott family did not have to lost their loved one.

Me also. I also have a great deal of personal respect for law officers. Most of them are the good guys.

I do not think that shooting somebody fleeing in the back can be considered like self-defense in any country of the world. I read the article. It was nothing else than a murder. Sad, but a policeman like this one discredits thousands of other policemen doing correctly their job.

I think there may be too much impulse killing.

Unless the fleeing person wasn't a threat to others then it is murder.
