It is said - "Honesty is the best policy". However, if you practice honesty and you are honest, do you believe that honesty sometimes proves to be an expensive habit? Do you think that If you are very honest at all the places and all the time, it could prove counter productive for you? I will quote an incident. A couple was driving and they were stopped by the traffic police personnel. The conversation went like it:- Cop to Couple - Sir, do you realize that you were speeding? Husband: I am sorry officer, I didn't know. Wife: What the hell, that's a lie I have been telling him for miles!! Husband: Shut up!! No one is talking to you!! Cop: Ok then, did you know that your license plate was expired? Husband: No Officer, I didn't know. Wife: He's again telling a lie!! I've been telling him for months!! Husband: Shut the hell up! Nobody is talking to you!!! Cop walks over to the wife's side and says - Cop: Mam, does he always talk to you this way? Wife: No. Only when he's drunk. If you would have an honest spouse like in the above incident, you would soon end up in jail unless of course, you are leading a life which is absolutely moral and legal. What is your take on being too honest?

Yes, at some of the places showing our honesty could prove costly for us. Do you try to be always honest?

@JudyEv Yes, you are right that for clarifying a lie, we might have to tell 100 lies, so it is better to speak the truth.

@dpk262006 Yes - because it is too much trouble to try to remember what lies I've told. I would trip myself up and get caught up if I told fibs.

In that particular case . . . oh yes, it was definitely not the time to be so honest ! Well that is, unless the wife really wanted to get him in trouble .

I think her honesty was too much for her husband in this particular case. Normally, no one would do like her.

@dpk262006 She may be "honest" but for a wife, she sure isn't standing by her husband's side!

Ha ha, still, we should be honest because lies do tend to be found out in the long run.

Yes, it is also true that telling a lie could be more troublesome then being honest.

Funny story! I know, sometimes being honest costs more, but I find, in the long run - that good things happen in return, so it evens out

It is good to hear that the post could make you laugh. I understand that you just want to speak truth and even if you are trying otherwise, you face expressions tell the real story.

This is not a honest spouse, this is a sort of witch who does everything to hurt is poor husband. I do not consider this behavior like "honesty", but like "harassment".

Funny story! I would feel bad about not being honest but I guess in certain cases you just have to choose between being smart and being honest.

It means that you would follow the path of honesty in most of the cases. Yes, you are right that one needs to wise enough to decide when he has to act smart and when he has to act honest.
